I've never known of any needing pig rails here. I've never had any. Just a simple whelping box has done fine for me. I use a big tupperware bin that goes under the bed, it has wheels but it doesn't go rolling by itself. It's very roomy. $1,000 deposit for a c-section. Maybe that'll be all it'll cost if needed. I just had a section last week, it was $900. And this was with a good whelper. It's a good thing to be prepared at all times. Best wishes to you and you're girl for an easy whelping. Susan | |

| Tina, I wouldn't worry about the side rails if I were you. It's recommended for large dogs but I've never found it necessary for my little ones. If they make her uncomfortable I would remove them. You'll be spending alot of time watching out for the pups after they are born so I'm sure you'll notice if there's a problem.

| Thank you, I really don't much care for these rails at all, and neither does she. They seem awkward, intrusive and very much in the way to me. I know I don't like bed rails all around me when trying to sleep in the hospital. It wasn't so much the amount of the deposit, it was more the fact that they expect it before even ever seeing my girl... as a just in case situation. They said they would refund the money if it wasn't used, but I just didn't like the idea of tieing my money up like that, or that they seemed so money hungry. No other vet in our city expects pre-payments like that. I could see it had I already been there with her for an exam and he felt it was a strong possibilty or something, but to not even see the dog yet? They didn't even know her size... just that she was a toy breed. The explanation I got was most people don't carry that kind of money with them when seeing the vet in an emergency situation, so he likes to already have the money beforhand... and in their oppinion most toy breeds should & are delivered via c-section. Redicuous, on both accounts & haven't they ever heard of a debit card or visa for peats sake Tina |

| Eeek, I think it's nearly time! She's been acting pretty lethargic and tired all day & evening & just barely picking at her food. Her temp this morning was 99.7, this afternoon 100.1, just now it's at 98.7! The babies are moving like crazy & she doesn't seem like her happy little self at all (ears pinned back & all teary eyed) She keeps looking back at her tummy & then at me as if to say whats going on Mom Are there any other signs I should be watching for? I don't see any fluids yet, but she keeps licking herself. I notice her tummy seems to harden for a few mintes and then soften again... I'm assuming like us woman these are contractions? Geeze... thought I was all prepared & now I'm a wreck! Poor Lilly!! |
