| Welcome, she'll be due around 63 days from your honeymoon. The search button is will become very valuable. More than likely things will go just fine, but you should know how to prepare by researching....keywording whelping lists, and such. Good luck |

| Hi. I don't know anything about breeding but I do know that I read that the father has to be smaller then the mother or it could be dangerous for the female. How much did the father weigh? Best of luck. Elaine |

| What is the father's size? Also - make sure you get his pedigree information so you can register the liter. A friend of mine was recently shocked to discover the stud she paid to breed her female to was NOT AKC registered after all. She was STUNNED and now horrified.....she had actually sold a male puppy to this woman a year ago and expected THAT puppy to be the dog. When they got to the vets it was a different dog and the lady just said "Oh this dog has had better success" or something like that. Now the registry doesn't line up and it's really bad. Anyway - not trying to ramble - just venting. I'm sure your sweetheart will be fine. Call the vet soon to find out about any adjustments in diet, etc. Keep us posted!! Angela <>< |

| Incorrect, the father does not have to be smaller. What you should be concerned with is whether she comes from a line of free whelpers and her reproductive area measurements are sufficient to whelp a puppy with out a C-section. Whether she has enough room to carry the puppies.

| Free whelpers are bitches that can deliver without a c-section. Their measurements should be 3 large fingers from anus to vulva and 2 large fingers from pelvis bone to pelvis bone. Is the father from a line of small dogs? Do you have a breeder friendly vet? If not I would definitely start shopping for one. A few good books would help, available for reference. You'll be on the fast track for learning so get in as much education as you can. Breeding these little dogs is often not as simple as people think it will be so prepare yourself. This is a good place to start.

| Females that can deliver without a C-Section. So, many problems can arise during the whole process, and can happen to any female, including a C-Section. Make sure you have a vet available to you in case you have an emergency. As well as to supply you with the medical supplies you'll need. You've undertaken a great responsibility, so read and educate yourself on the whole process. Be prepared to give up a minimum of 8 weeks of your life. Once her due date is near, she will not be able to be left alone. Once the puppies are born, she and they will have to be monitored around the clock. Making sure they are nursing well and mom eating well. Puppies gaining properly. Tails docked, dew claws removed, vet checks and vaccinations given. Socializing, insuring the ears are up, potty training....If you aren't keeping them, finding good homes for them. Contracts to be drawn up, etc.
