| DNA test? I am putting this in the breeder section, because I thought that you guys would know best. I suspect that my sweet angel is either Chorkie or a Dorkie... either that or he is one ugly yorkie (I love him just the same, he just looks odd LOL He is my Funny Face ) I am worried about health problems, because I know that different breeds are prone to different things, and I know that different mixes are prone to different things. I want to know what I should watch for in the ways of health and behavior. I also have to say, I'm a little anxious about what he'll be when he grows up- I reeeeally wanted a yorkie with that gorgeous silky coat. I love my dog, but don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed in the future if his coat won't grow. So my question is, is there a DNA test that I could have my vet do to tell me what breeds are in my precious? If there is, is it expensive? Will it hurt my dog??? The older he gets, the more yorkie he gets... but I've had people ask me at different times if he is a chorkie. I didn't know very much about the breed when I bought him; it's my fault for not educating myself before someone lied to me and I fell for it. -O

| There is a newer test out that tells you what breeds your dog is mixed with but I am not sure how accurate it is. It is pretty new and was being offered for free at the time but I am not sure if it is now. Did you see his parents? Was there any chance his parents were mixed? Some yorkies are full bred but don't look anything like it. They don't conform to the standards of a yorkie but they can still be a yorkie, just a poorly bred one. When you take one poorly bred yorkie and breed it to another, you get a yorkie that doesn't look much like your standard yorkies. Your little one is a cutie and I am sure you love him no matter what. I personally think he looks all yorkie to me.

| THIS WAS IN MY LOCAL PAPER TODAY. VERY INTERESTING OR IS IT A WAY FOR PEOPLE TO MAKE MONEY. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK DNA Test Can Tell Your Mixed Dog's Breeds More on the Web Metamorphix Incorporated's Dog DNA Testing For anyone who's ever gotten a mixed breed dog, there's always that question. What breed of dog is this? We've all heard how DNA science is being used more and more every day. Now there's a company that can help identify the breeds in your dog. Metamorphix Incorporated has come up with a simple DNA test that can right now identify 38 different breeds of dogs. The test is simple. You just swab the inside of your dog's mouth and send the swab and other materials off to the lab. What you'll get back is a certificate that will show your dog's genetic makeup. "You want to know that certain animals are pre-disposed to certain traits related to that breed. For example, hip dysplasia and so the owner may then decide to make sure he keeps his dog lean because the weight of that animal has a direct correlation to how soon they may get hip dysplasia," says Thomas Russo with Metamorphix Incorporated. The test costs $50 and the results are returned to you in four to six weeks. The test will not be available until the end of February but log onto http://www.metamorphixinc.com/products3.html for more information.

| pup He looks Yorkie to me...the closer a breeder adhers to the standard, the more the dog will be an good example of that particular breed. Some breeders will use a larger Yorkie with a more square jaw terrier look...but it does not mean the dog is any less Yorkie, just not the ideal for breeding etc. |

| Thank you all so much! I can see how a poorly bred yorkie that is bred will have even poorer quality yorkie pups that don't look yorkie-ish. I guess that didn't occur to me- it makes sense though; if people can take two great yorkies and breed them to make an even better litter of yokies, then the opposite direction can certainly be taken. I still might look into this $50 test though, especially if it is just a swab of the cheek- I was thinking they might have to draw blood or marrow, in which case I'd definitely give reconsideration. I just want to know the truth about my baby. My Trixie- I never saw his parents. I was SO naive when I bought him! The breeder won't even send me pics of them, which makes me a lot more suspicious. I've learned my lesson about that.... -O
