Metamorphix Incorporated's Dog DNA Testing

For anyone who's ever gotten a mixed breed dog, there's always that question. What breed of dog is this?

We've all heard how DNA science is being used more and more every day. Now there's a company that can help identify the breeds in your dog.

Metamorphix Incorporated has come up with a simple DNA test that can right now identify 38 different breeds of dogs.

The test is simple. You just swab the inside of your dog's mouth and send the swab and other materials off to the lab. What you'll get back is a certificate that will show your dog's genetic makeup.

"You want to know that certain animals are pre-disposed to certain traits related to that breed. For example, hip dysplasia and so the owner may then decide to make sure he keeps his dog lean because the weight of that animal has a direct correlation to how soon they may get hip dysplasia," says Thomas Russo with Metamorphix Incorporated.

The test costs $50 and the results are returned to you in four to six weeks.

The test will not be available until the end of February but log onto http://www.metamorphixinc.com/products3.html for more information.
