Question Ok my neighbor has a Yorkie as well and when she found out i had one that was a girl she said something about them having puppies hers is a boy. How would you go about doing that that is when mine gets old enough? Do we need to have contracts and all kinds of stuff if both of us just want a puppy after the breeding is done. we are not planning on selling the puppies or anything.

You wouild be wise to put any agreement in writing. Even if you both just want a puppy then the contract should state that, and what happens in the case there is only one living puppy, or no living puppies. Who gets the first choice if you both want the same puppy. Please take the time to write down everything and both sign it and both get a copy. It will save a lot of grief in the future. Just as good fences make good neighbors, so do good contracts make good neighbors. It does not have to be written by a lawyer, just write down everything that you agree on and sign it.

Be sure that they are both worth breeding and do all the necessary tests before breeding. And would they make a good match. Just having two yorkies does not equal puppies. Be sure that they represent our standard well! Thanks. T.

standard. Your girl should be no younger than 18 months or her 2nd Season. Make sure both are free of STDs before the breeding (Vet determines by performing a smear on both). Read everything you can on breeding, whelping and raising a good healthy litter.
