| how can you tell if she's pregnant? Hi- My little yorkie went into heat right before we were going on vacation. This is her first heat. We took her to the breeder that we bought her from because she also boards dogs. I told her she was in heat and she said that would be no problem. When I went and picked her up after we got back she had lost some weight and had diareha. She had this for a few days and was acting kind of not herself. We kept her crated a little more than usual to keep her away from the dashound that we have until we could take him to my father in-laws. Now that she isn't in heat anymore it seems as though her breasts are swollen and her belly is kind of hard. Does anyone think she may be pregnant or possible a false pregnancy? She was around other pregnant dogs while she was there. The breeder says that she wasn't around any boy dogs while she was there. Is there any way to tell? She went into heat on January 31st. I am just worried cause she is so small only 5 lbs and the breeder keeps telling me I shouldn't breed her. Help please anyone. |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Hello. Do you trust your breeder? I would think if she is telling you she's too small to breed that she would be sure to keep her away from her males. It actually takes a while to tell if they are pregnant, but from what you said in your post, I would think she wouldn't be, if the breeder kept her males away. By the way, I'm from Michigan too! What area of Michigan are you from? |

| Sometimes their nipples will look swollen after their heat cycle. If your breeder says she wasn't in contact then I would guess she is telling the truth because she sure would look stupid if you ended up with puppies. |

| Thanks I'm from the Big Rapids area by Ferris University. I do trust my breeder. My husband is just worried and he makes me worry. I thought maybe it was because it was her first heat why they swelled. Thanks so much. Do you think 5 lbs is to small to breed? |

My one female is 5 lbs. I think you'll get alot of different opinions. I think 5 lbs and over is fine. But I also look at her frame as well. There are some tiny framed 5 lbs girls out there that I wouldn't want to breed. My other two females are going to be about 5 1/2 to 6 pounds. Where does your breeder live? I bought my male from a breeder in MI, who also boards dogs as well. | |
