| Youngster in heat!! I am not sure if this is the right section to post this question but thought some of you breeders with experience would have some insight. One of my yorkies, Kaleigh, is just 7 months old and I just noticed last night that she is in heat already!! I do intend to breed her when she is older (was planning on doing it her second heat) but I never expected her first heat to be this early!! Other females I have or have had havent had their first heat until they are about 10 months or so. Is a first heat at 7 months unusual - is it anything to be concerned about? I am of course keeping her away from my male for the next 3 weeks or until I know for sure this has passed. |

| I had a dog have a short heat at around 8 months, then a normal one again around 12 months. I think that is pretty normal. |

| Yes it is normal. They can come into their first heat anywhere from 6 months to a little over a year.

| I hope you use more then luck to keep them apart. Is there anything the vet can give to stop a unwanted heat. 7 months is very young & even if she had the pups ok she may not be ready to raise them. I would keep them seperated for awhile. jmo |

| Thank you Thanks to all who have replied. I do appreciate your input. It isnt really that hard to keep them separate. They are all crate trained so have separate sleeping quarters and a gate between the puppy room and the next room. I am fortunate that since I own my business I always take some of my dogs to work with me everyday anyway. I usually rotate and take different ones but when I have one in heat she gets to go everywhere I go and her feet dont touch the ground unless I have her at work and the male at home or vice versa. They love the extra attention and I enjoy it too. Thanks again. |

| Wowser that's young, but very normal. I have heard from anywhere from 6 months and I have even heard as late as 18 months! So as long as you make sure to keep you male away there shouldn't be any problem. The earliest any of my girls have come into heat is 9 months!
