| Hormones or what???? I know this might seem to be a crazy question but I am stumped. Max has started humping Katie today and I know there is no way she can be in heat as she just had a littler of puppies and they are only 5 weeks old. Could this be from changing hormones or something? Why is he all of a sudden doing this? He has also started marking again since the puppies have started getting around. Is this normal behavior for him? I never had a male around when my other dogs had pups so I'm just not sure? I would appreciate any advise anyone can give me. Also, how should i figure when her next heat will be? Her normal cycle is every 9 mo....do I figure the 9 mo from the beginning of her last heat or does having a litter affect this? Just want to be prepared and watching when the time gets near.

| How old is Max? If he's around 7-8 monthes he's having major hormone rushes. If he's older it's probably a case of trying to establish dominance with the new members of the pack. If your girl is pretty regular at 9 month intervals, you can expect her next heat to be 9 monthes from the beginning of her last. Pregnancy doesn't interrupt their normal cycle but the length of time that she nurses her pups can modify it.

| Thank you for the replies. Max is 1 1/2 now so I think it may be more of a "man of the house" thing. LOL I didn't really expect him to do it though because all the pups are girls? I guess he will probably stop after Katie puts him in his place I realized yesterday that he had marked the xpen too so I think that is definitely the problem. I have never had any problems with him being a humper but he has always been a marker.

| Tonka, the male i have here is doing the same thing with my Katie...he's been banished from the area since he is sooo adamant. He marks the ex pen and will NOT leave her alone...So, til the pups are weaned and gone and she is back to her pre pregnant self, i'm keeping them separated. Much to his chagrin. He is also getting neutered next week, if the vet says its a go. I am getting two akc females and he isn't breeding quality. He was my birthday present (and second yorkie) last year and while i love the little guy, he is not a good match for the girls i'm getting. Kristie |
