Not interested???? Well, Mia started to show red on 1/1 and unlike last heat 8 months ago when we didn't want them to breed, Max is totally uninterested still today, and she's not interested either. I know from breeding other dogs/cats in the past that when they're ready, they're interested, but we're at day 10 and neither one seems to care. Any input??? FYI, yes, they've both been vet checked physically and for health/genetics. My sister bred/showed poodles for years when I was growing up & I worked with her and I've bred/showed Persians until my DS turned up deathly allergic, so I'm not a total newbie to this. Both of them are much more aware of other dogs being near our house & when DD came home after playing with a friends male chi, they wanted to tear DD apart. I'm just wondering what's up. She's now 2+ and he's over 18 months. Thanks for any input. I'm guessing we're just in a waiting game.....

But Max has been wanting to 'do the deed' for quite a while. Just since she started bleeding he shows no interest. Last heat he didn't eat or sleep for 3 days! - lost almost 1 of his 2.75 pounds. Poor little guy! | |

She's probably not ovulating yet. It's usually around day 13 if my memory is correct (Lack of sleep, correct me if I'm wrong) He'll be interested when she's ready. The bleeding will also be stopped or at least lighter. And she will be flagging, lifting the tail to the side for him.

Guess you cant believe everything you read! I didnt think it would happen but my shih tzu bred on day 15 from the time she first went in heat - I wasnt planning to breed her until next time and thought that was pretty late in her heat cycle so no worries but her and the male knew when to "do it" because it looks like we will be having puppies the 29th of this month. That would be a calculated due date but at this point nothing would surprise me with this little lady.

This is so weird. Last heat, when we didn't want them to breed, he wouldn't leave her alone. They're together 24/7. He was young, though and maybe didn't know when, but still nothing.

I'm really beginning to lose hope this time. Neither are interested at all. Maybe she will have a split heat, but I'm not betting on it.
