| I just got off the phone with the emergency vets who performed Sabrina's C-Section, I am worried because she keeps panting, I fed her, gave her water, and took her to the window to get some fresh air it is kind of warm in the room I keep her and the babies in, in fact it is the ony warm room in my home. Anyway the vet said that it could be that she is hot, or uncomfortable, I turned down the heat a little, the temp in the room was 72 so I turned the heat down to try and make the room temp atleast 68-70 Sabrina isn't leaving her babies so she is keeping them pretty warm...so my problem is I am worried about her panting, also if your dog isn't producing enough milk and you need to supplement how do you get the babies to suck the bottle?? I don't think they are getting anything out of the bottle, I put 2 tablespoons fool of milk in a bottle and it isn't even a little bit below the number 2 line, so it seems as if they are not getting anything and every 20 minutes or so they are trying to get milk from Sabrina can anyone help??? |

| My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Are you taking the moms temperature. After a c section its important to take the moms temp everyday. You want to make sure it doesn't rise...which would mean infection. My vet had me monitor my mom when she had a section and told me to call ASAP if it reached 103. I would deff take her temp and make sure its ok... |

| Is Sabrina not producing any milk??? The babies need to suck to encourage milk to produce and come in. Get some scales that weigh by the ounce or Milligrams. I got postal scales at Office Max. Weigh the babies 2-3 times a day so you can tell if they are getting enough nourishment. Their weight should be increasing daily. Can you squeeze the teets on Sabrina to see if there is any colostrum or milk??? Yes, and do take her temp. to make sure she's not coming down with an infection from the surgery.

| Nydia, I'm so sorry that you lost one. But I'm glad that you trusted your instincts and took her in. When my dogs deliver, I give them 1/2 a can of Science Diet food twice a day. Plus, I give them 1/3 C. of Esbilac twice a day. The Esbilac will boost her calcium, give her nourishment and boost liquid intake. Most of them will gulp it right down. For the puppies, are they crying? How do you know that she's not producing milk? I would definitely take her temperature and squeeze her nipples to see if there is any milk there. Good luck!

| My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I'm hoping everythign is ok with the mom. I know when my Chi had her C-section in July, she had a couple issues too. I hope she took her temp. My Chi's almost went to 103, and my vet told me it was danger zone. It takes quite awhile for those moms to get feeling back to par after a c-section. I hope everything is ok !!!! |

| I just took Sabrina's temp it is 100.9, I've been in contact with Kimberly who has been helping me a whole lot...the babies are getting enough milk because they are not crying so much, they cry when they are hungry get on moms teat then they go to sleep after they eat so I'm guessing they are comfortable, warm, and full. Kimberly says as long as they are not crying I don't need to worry about mom not having milk, and I make sure I put the babies on the teats every hour to promote milk production. The doctors told me that Sabrina wasn't producing enough milk when she was with them and they were supplementing her milk so I figured I would have to do the same, I've been supplementing the bigger boy but only 3 times a day the rest of the day I let him eat off of his mom, I hope I'm not doing anything wrong by supplementing the bigger boy, if I am please let me know. Question: When do the babies usually go to potty??? I haven't seen any evidence of them using the potty, should I be worried, 6 in the am to day made them officially 2 days old and no potty yet, any advice??? |
