Help!!! Sabrina Is Going Into Labor??? I called my vet because Sabrina is acting weird...she peed in her bed and she has a clear discharge...she isn't pushing only twice I seen her do this, she had the discharge at around 10p.m, she pushed at 10:10 then again at 10;25 now she's just sitting there..... |
I have no experience with puppies but with kittens the mom will get upset if you do so STAY CALM!!!!!! Sounds like her water broke?????? As long as she is not in pain, I say just watch her and wait for the vet call. Best of luck...... |
Yes, stay calm! She's probably just getting to where she's going good. I hope it is going well! |
I'm trying to stay calm but she is acting strange to me She is laying down then sitting back up then laying back down...the only thing is that when she sits up she holds her head up for a little while then she lets it drop and then she lays down, as if she is extra tired...that is making me worried, and has anyone ever heard of a dog pushing and not seeing nothing at all no matter how many times she push, including blood or anything else??? how many times does a dog have to push before you can see anything??? She is a tiny yorkie, she was only 4 pounds the last time we checked and my boy is 6.5 pds that really worries me. |
Nydia, I am not an expert here on dogs.....but it sounds like she is having contractions for the puppy to drop down into the birth canal......and she is probably very uncomfortable and she is scared too. Has the vet called you back yet? Maybe you can sit in the birthing area with her and get her to lay down....pet her and talk to her. Keep the phone with you so you don't miss the vet call. My cat would actually rear up and arch her back when the contractions got really bad.........and before the hard labor hit she was acting weird....meowing alot, trying to hide, walking in circles.......so actually it sounds pretty normal to me what your dog is doing right now. |
I spoke to the vet a few minutes ago he is saying the same thing you said, to watch and wait, he said no matter what I will see something happen, He said if I see a sack and she is pushing but the sack isn't moving then I'm in trouble and should bring her to the emergency animal clinic which is about 20 minutes from where I am now, thing is I don't want to wait until I see something like that, I would rather they just give her a c-section to avoid all that, does that sound crazy!!! |

Have you whelped before? If she is sitting up and rearing her head up she is having a contraction...they are not close enough to be real concerned...if this has all just started and you dont see a pup in about and hour or hour and a half you need to get her to the vet...Breeding a 4 lber to a 6.5lber is risky in itself...the pups may be too large for her to do natural birth... keep her calm do you know if the water sac has come yet? |
Calm down girl.....take a deep breath. The labor could take a while. My one cat years ago took all night and another one took just three hours for six kittens. You will know when she goes into hard labor.....and be prepared coz my cat actually screamed......once she has the first one and gets the sac taken care of and the puppy cleaned up she will relax and mother nature will take over. But she will have a hard contraction for each and every pup that she delivers..... Hang in there I know its scary..... You really don't want her to have a C-Section......recoop time for her will be long and she will not feel like taking care of the pups coz she will be trying to get her strength back after having surgery. Just dig in and make yourself and her comfortable coz it may be a long night......and relax.....think of pleasant things like the little pups you will have....and remember to keep momma calm too.......... |
That is exactly what I asked my vet and he said everything looked good to him, he did do an X-ray and said I have four babies...I am not a breeder, this was not intentional, my vet wanted me to wait until Sabrina had her second heat before he put her under anesthesia. I had a Safety First Baby fence that I used to keep Blaine and Sabrina separated when she was going through her heat cycle and somehow she ended up pregnant anyway, I was devasted when the vet told me she was pregnant, I didn't want her to ever have babies she is to small in my opinion but it happened and now I'm trying my best to deal with it, thing is my vet doesn't take my concern seriously or so it seems. |
Ok Nadia, It sounds like you have an experience person helping you now so I am going to just read your posts and bow out......Best of luck and please keep posting. Hang in there girl!!!!!!! |

Nadia, She will do just great.......if she gets in distress you will know it in your gut and then take her to the vet. But just stay calm if you get upset your not going to be any good to her or yourself.......... |

Another question is it okay to give her some nutri-cal for a little bit of energy while she is in labor or is that a bad idea??? |
