| Help - Breeder Won't Send Papers My breeder was supposed to provide AKC registration papers after receiving proof that the puppy has been fixed. Well, she received a copy of his bill for being fixed about 3 months ago and still hasn't sent his papers. I've emailed her twice and called once. She responded by e-mail two months ago and said she had been very sick, but had not forgotten. Then, a month after that I called and she said she'd been swamped giving refunds to some people b/c the papers were pulled on one of her sires (not Scooter's dad). Again, she promised to send the registration papers. I don't know what to do. She seems to be a really sweet person, but she's been jerking me around forever on this. What should I do? Take her to court? Report her to the AKC? Get over it and move on?

Does this breeder live close to you where you can just drive over there and get the papers??? Do you have ANYTHING in writing from the breeder that states that once she received proof of the neuter, she'd give you the papers? e.g. contracts, written agreements, etc. I had problems getting papers from a breeder once. Long story short, sent my demand letter (which I received from the courts) and I received the papers the very next day. Turns out the breeder lied about the actual age of the pup and I received the pup when he was a little over 6 weeks. You can contact AKC about this (as I did) but they did nothing about my situation...I was basically on my own. If she's gotten papers pulled from one of her studs, then AKC already knows about her and may be more willing to do something...but I wouldn't hold my breath.

| The contract doesn't actually state it, which sorta shocks me, but I have e-mails from her that statesshe provides papers when she receives written proof and that she hasn't forgotten about his papers. I think the e-mails might stand up in small claims court, but I wouldn't know what to even ask for and I certainly wouldn't consider giving him back. The reason I want his papers is because part of my decision to buy from her was based on the idea that the puppy was registered. He was my first puppy and I felt like getting a registered puppy would increase the odds that 1) he turned out to have the characteristics of a yorkie since that's the type of dog that I thought would be happy living with me and 2) that he was bred by someone that probably cared about the breed and wanted to produce healthy puppies with the appropriate temperment. Basically I think it's only fair that since she used it as a selling point, she should have to provide the papers. That's about it.

| Do you know any lawyers who could make up a letter for you to send to her? That's what I would do. Rather you need the papers or not, if you were promised them, then you should get them.
