Trini Progress... :p Day 61...wow! Last night her stomach was kinda hard and lumpy few times. It felt like the puppies were moving around. This morning I took her temerature and it was 98.3 (digital therm) and 98.0 (regular therm). Oh my goodness, I am so nervous for her. :p She is just walking to get to where she wants and then she plops down and rests until she wants to move spots again. lol I will keep you all updated and will post pics of the pups!! OK gotta go!:p |
If her temp stays down, you should be having pups real soon! Good luck!!!!   |
I am excited!!!!!!!!!!! i bet you have Thanksgiving babies. Please keeep us updated. |
Hope you're not planning cooking Thanksgiving dinner for a crowd because I think you will be taking care of puppies instead! Best wishes for a healthy delivery. How big is Mom, Dad and do you know how many puppies you are expecting? |
Hmmm... Trini (mom) was exactly at 4 lbs. at her last vet visit in Sept & Coco (dad) is 3.15 lbs. steady. The thing is she is showing no other signs except for occasional hardness of her stomach, which I am assuming are beginning contractions but there is no pattern or consistency and drop in body temp. Trini has gained 1 lb and she is now 5.04 lbs. The vet said he saw 4 on the x-ray and there might be 1 more hiding...who knows :p I took her last Thursday. I am gonna take her temp again right now and report back, lol... |
You posted earlier her temp was 98 - that is a drop in body temperature - normal is 101 to 102.5. The hardening of the stomach is probably contractions so I wouldn't be leaving her alone at all at this point. I am glad she is having at least four that hopefully means they will be small and she will be able to deliver them without a C-section. The smallest female I have ever bred was 4 3/4 pound pre-pregnancy weight (but there have been natural healthy deliveries under that weight) - make sure you have the numbers and addresses of emergency clinics written down and easily accessible. |
Did the vet say (by looking at the xray) that she should deliver ok? (pups sizes) They can usually tell by the xray if the pups look large. I'll be watching and waiting! Good luck to you!!!!! |
Thank you... Quote:

Hmmmmm... Trini has diarrhea it is really stinky and like three times in the past 1 1/2 hours? Is that noormal at this point? Oh yea, and it was gooey... |
wow puppy watch again so exciting keep us posted hun , will be praying for a safe delverary for mom and puppies .... |
Yes, it's normal. Allie's last litter she had diarrhea about 9:00 that morning - I even gave her butt a bath! She went into labor at 2:00 that afternoon. Is she panting and digging in the bedding, yet? |
How exciting for you! I pray for an easy delivery and healthy babies! Please keep us posted! |
Best of luck to you. Sounds like pups today. T. |
Nothing yet...lol :animal36 Well, her temp has been down to 97.7 on both of my term's since yesterday afternoon and she is breathing out heavier (not too heavy). I am sure she is having some kind of contractions now and again, kinda often, but again with no pattern or consistency to them. She has found herself a small spot in a blanket right by our bed that she is comfortable in and she is spending alot of her time there. I have stopped moving her to her whelping box for now, until I see anything more serious. She is just laying around. One funny thing she is doing is just licking at the air. For like a full minute she will just lick and then stop, lol. It is sooo cute. And she also gets up and walks to different spots to lay out for a while but no digging, well, a little when she gets to the blanket but nothing serious, lol... The vet said everything looked okay and she should be fine on her own just to keep out an eye for distress or in case anything goes wrong but he believed she would do it on her own. I read that the temp for a dog should go down to 98.0, does anyone think I should be worried at 97.7? (<<<<is that a silly question:confused: ) :p or what is the temp that I should be worried about if she gets too low? Thank you all...I'll be here watching and waiting :p |
kandy had really loose stools for two days before her labor and her temp went down to 98. then back up to 99.4. the day she had her puppies she ate a huge breakfast at 8;30. I left her in her x-pen because i could tell she didn't want out. i walked thru the house about 10. and glanced in at her and we had aa big ball hanging out. No signs of any distress before that. the first just popped right out. the second was an even bigger ball and i saw all four paws. Hubby had to help on that one. That is the one i resuscitated. Out of the five, three were feet first but that one huge guy is the only one she had any problem with. Good luck!!!!!!!! |
Good luck with everything! I can't wait to see the adorable pictures posted. What a great thanksgiving! |
She is in her box... :p Well, after I posted I puther in her whelping box and she had not come out of it. Usually, she will stay in but when I walk out of the room she will get out of the box, she did not do that this time. Thank you for sharing kandy's experience, now I know even though she doesn't have all the symptoms she could still have them anytime. Whoa, I am so nervous!! I hope it won't be two more days of this, lol...Today is day 62!!:p |
Sorry, another question... My boy keeps getting to get into the box with her and I keep getting him out. Should I let him lay in the whelping box with her? He is the dad and her best friend?? |
It is best to seperate him from her, as time arrives she might snap at him and will be harder for her to just focus on her delivery. T. |
Is she doing a lot of licking of her vulva? I wouldn't worry about 97.7 at all, if it went much below 97 I probably would, but have never had that happen. I would keep Dad in another room. My Dad wants nothing to do with the puppies, he is afraid of them until they are about 7 or 8 weeks old so he never gets too close, just watches from a distance. If he was a human he would definitely be one of those in the waiting room - not assisting Mom! You'll have your hands full without having to worry about a third party. You should also have a separate area set up with a heating pad to put the puppies in between deliveries. I let Mom clean them up, place them on a nipple (if time permits), but as soon as she has another contraction the puppies come out so we can focus on the one being born. If she doesn't want to whelp in the box don't worry about that - the more free access you have to her the better. You can move them all in after it's over. I'll be really surprised if you don't have puppies sometime today (or tonight). |
wow so exciting ,,, yeah i agree with lacysmom, i didnt put dixie in her box til after the puppies were born course she wouldnt stay in it anyway lol... she was clingy but not alot of panting and i figured i had several hours next thing i knew oopsie there was a puppy lol... please keep us posted, sometimes they dont have all the classic symptoms hun just like humans they are all diff.. my male didnt come near while the labor was in progress its like he knew not to was kinda kewl. but until she actually started they were together const too they are never apart either best friends too |
Temp Again... :p Okay...so I left to the grocery store for 20 mins and I just got back and tok her temp. It is 98.0 exactly! I put her in her box and she is digging and and digging!! woohoo, now we are getting somewhere, lol... Okay, thank you everyone...:p I'm going to start my turkey... BTW-Happy Turkey Day to everyone!! |
kandy started digging the night before. Silk started digging about an hour before. puppies are on the way!!!!!!!!! put your male in another room |
I am sure... :p So, now I am sure she is in labor. She is laying streached out in her "box", quiet but breathing hard, a little whimpering in her breaths. She is streached out and I can see contractions (not too hard) and her vulva and area behind it is really swollen. When I moved her back into her box she was kinda limp and tired, just wanting me to do all the work. Poor baby, I hope she will have the strength to push. My boy Coco was fighting me to get in there, lol...I told him "No!" and he still jumped in there so since 2:00pm I had to put him in the other room. I keep running in and out...I am, cooking and checking, cooking and checking. Ahhhhhh! :p But no puppies yet... I am so excited. Thank you all...:p |
It will help ease her stress a lot if you don't leave her alone at all. I stay with mine continually and it really seems to help. Sometimes they will take off running when the pup starts to come out and you really need to be there to keep this from happening as they can rip the placenta from the puppy and cause a hernia. The sack also needs to come off and the baby suctioned within a minute too. I have also seen them not realize what is going on and bite at the thing that is hurting them (the baby's head). A lot can happen in just leaving them alone for a few minutes. Mine have very easy labors, three contractions and we have a pup and in less than 2 hours it's all over. I hope your baby has an easy delivery. Give us updates when you can. |
Keeping you and your mama to be in my prayers. I will keep checking back to see how things are going .:hands: :hands: |

:) This is so exciting! Can't wait for the next update! |
Good luck I am so excited for you. |
She is pacing... :p Everytime she has a contraction (last 2, about 10 mins apart) she gets up and starts pacing around the room, then she scoots down and pees a little, walks around a little more and then lays down again. Her eyes are glossy. Just now she stood in front of her box and was looking at me so I picked her up and put her in and she is resting again!:p |
