Thats right, I've learned enough to know there is no way I could breed Venus!

I actually bought her in August with the thoughts of breeding her with my male.

After reading this breeding section for the last 2 months, and seeing 3 people raising pups and loosing the mama in the past week or 2. I don't know how in the world you all stay awake and feed babies every 2-3 hours. Ok, I never had kids either, lol.

I feel for each of you that lost your girls in childbirth, and right after c-sections. I know that has to hurt bad enough, then staying awake and feeing babies on top.

Adonis loves Venus as much or more than I do. I think he'd be just as happy with her if she was fixed. I know he and I would both be devistated if something happend to her. I doubt seriously if he would even "notice" she can't breed anymore.

She'll be 6 months old in January, and I'll probably have her spayed and him neutured early next year.

Yea, I've kept it pretty quiet about wanting to breed her on this board. I've seen breeders really get upset with folks wanting to breed their girls. So I kept my mouth shut. Now, its out of the closet, but I no longer want to breed.

This section is great. All you breeders are special people too, don't get me wrong. Its takes a very special person to breed. But I know I'm not one of them. You have to be willing to take risks, that I'm not willing to take.

After seeing 3 of you loose your females in the past week or 2....I know I just couldn't risk it. Adonis is just as happy with a great, beautiful playmate! And I'm happy knowing when she passes, it won't be from complications from me breeding her.

Thank you all so much for the breeding section! Its taught me a lot. Actually, its taught me everything I need to know about breeding!

It has been 35 years of the best of times and the worst of times..but I just adore Yorkies and can not imagine my life without them...

JeanieK, just being totoally honest here. Thats all. I couldn't deal with loosing my girl, and I know Adonis loves her as much as I do.

I have a lot of respect for those of you that do this. Just know I couldn't.

I have a lot of respect for you posting this! I think it's phenomenal when someone can realize what is or isn't a good decision for them and you are a good person for stepping up and saying it out loud.

So many seem to want to breed their girl just once for the experience or because they want to produce a pup just like her. I think these painful experiences that fellow yorkie lovers share are very educational. They help you to count the cost before making such a serious decision. Breeding is after all dealing with life and death.

when i got Pippa i thought i would breed her too, but after reading many posts felt the same way...i will leave it to the experts. Pippa has now been spayed!

Same here. When I got Abbie, I wanted to breed her "just once", to have a puppy by her. Then, I started learning, too! I must honestly say I don't understand how anyone can breed little 3lb under-sized dogs, knowing what she would go through. Abbie is 6lbs at 11months, and I can't imagine her giving birth! One of the major reasons for changing my mind about breeding, is I know me

. It would weigh heavily on me not knowing where my babies were, or how their lives were playing out. I had to give my horse away years ago, and the possibility that she may have (at some point) fallen into irresponsible hands still haunts me.

Abbie was spayed last Monday, (and, doing quite well, btw

) and I'm so very glad that's all behind us, now!

I, too, have great respect for RESPONSIBLE breeders; and, I don't think $1,000 / pup is too much at all! LOL

Yep, the whole breeding thing scares me to death, too! I thought about it briefly with Starr, but decided against it after doing some research and had her spayed at 7 months. Now I almost wish I had one of puppies, since she's gone now

But I didn't want to risk her life, and I have ZERO experience with breeding, so I made the right decision. It's not even in the equation with Luna, as she was diagnosed with LP. Not that I was even considering breeding her, but if I were ever to breed, you can be 100% sure that the dam would be the healthiest and to-standard specimen on Earth, lol!

When I got my female and male my breeder asked me if I was going to breed them and I said no. Then My son said he wanted me to breed them so he could have one and I thought about it. I ended up getting them spayed and neutered. I couldnt have bred anyway my male ended up 4 lbs heavier than my female

Great post.

You know when my girl got extremely sick after whelping, I thought she might die, since she could barely walk, wouldnt eat or drink.. I told my husband, I dont know if I can do this anymore and he just patted me.
My girl did pull thru and I was a joyous experience after the fact. I look at her with her puppies and have a great sense of releif and happiness come over me. But when she was sick and it took her awhile to recover, I was not enjoying breeding. It was a helpless terrible feeling and for those who have lost a female during or after the whelping process, Im so sorry and I can feel that grief, I really didnt think my girl would make it. BUt I was lucky and she did.
The yorkies, the puppies, the interaction has brought my family alot of joy and I cant imagine not doing it. Its a very big part of our life, especially mine. But sometimes it is a painful, disappointing experience and I think every breeder during the trials and tribulations that have came up have thought "DO I want to do this anymore?"
WHen its good its wonderful! When its bad its horrible! ANd its always alot of work, in good or bad times.
