Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | Important Question For Breeders!!! Due to the huge # of puppies being born to day i was wondering if any breeders would be willing to have their #'s put in an emergency only sticky on YT so that if someone wasn't able to get to a vet in time they could at least have an expert they could call in case one of you were not on line. I know this is a weird request but in an emergency and saving a pup this could be invaluable.

number I have no problem being called day or night...but do it a few weeks before whelping, not in the middle of a problem when many are frantic...and forget very important info...and you have to remember, I may so things opposite to others. I do not allow the pup to remain attached to the cord until the mother decides to chew it or it is expelled..that is when many are injured or asperate fluids..I want them out, lungs clear and on the teet..so I clamp and cut all cords myself. early on I lost a few..cord chewed too short and lost too much blood, one mom got out of the box with a pup attached and stepped on it.. 561-732-5067

I have always been under the impression that mom's can nip the cord too short and that tugging on it is one can lead to umbilical hernias...someone correct me if I'm wrong there. Since the result is going to be the same...mom chewing the cord or me cutting it...it only stands to reason that it's best to do it yourself...am I not right?

upset!!!! i am grateful for whatever help I got. but i guess so many babies were being born all at the same time, everyone was too busy. I am sorry and i don't mean to be hateful or anything. I really am glad for those that tried tohelp but by then, I was headed to the vet with emergency lights flashing. I am so sad my little boy did not make it. he was horribly deformed. R.I.P. my baby boy

Whenever I have a whelping coming up I give a heads up to my Vet(s) and local breeder friends. Things can still go wrong but sometimes you need someone who is right there with you to help you through. Whether it is a first whelping or 20th whelping, nothing ever seems to go exactly the same. Sometimes tragedies happen, sometimes it is okay. All I know is that i am exhausted for days with the stress and worry after a whelping.

male I am sorry about your little male...sometimes I do not check the forusm for house..so call me anytime..best wishes..I will surely return any calls if I am out. As to cord cutting..it is a matter of what works for the breeder. I am not afraid of retained placenta's..never had one not come out, just so you know it is still there (count) a shot or massage does it, never had a uterine infection...some moms are so rough when chewing and I have seen hernias develop...whatever works as I said...
