There's an entire litany of tests that should be done prior to breeding, if one cares about the health of the dogs. In addition, it's important to know the health history of the ENTIRE line, not just the particular dogs you intend to breed. Some genetic defects may only show up when you've put two of the wrong dogs together; others are much more prevalent. Now, if the information you are looking for is how to let it be known that you have a stud available, you won't find that information here because it's a violation of YT rules.

Bitches or dams are the correct terminology to refer to breeding females. It is neither derogatory or indicative that they are not well loved family members. The advice you sought is contained in the many posts above yours, even though it might be 3 or so years old, it is still true of today. You want to "learn" how to do it the right way. There is no short cut to the right way. You do the breed specific testing, you get out and show your males, and you seek educated opinion from very experienced breeders about the quality of both males. If you want to breed at the minimum you breed to maintain the Yorkie Standard in all ways, if you are very very lucky and or very experienced the great breeders actually improve the breed. And Gawd knows our Yorkie breed has enough health concerns that all breeders should be breeding to improve the health of this breed!!! If you doubt this take a few hours to go through the Sick and Emergency threads here. I could also post many research links to the sobering genetic health issues of our beloved breed.

I get the impression OP thinks you and Rhetts mama are trying to argue with her and not offer sound help and information I pray she takes to heart for the good of this breed. So many seem to think that breeding is fairly easy to do with a few tips or reading a book or two and never stop to ask WHY should I breed my dog and what kind of puppies will he and his ancestors create?

| ![]() YT people tend to be very protective of the breed. Breeding and studding out a dog have serious implications to the welfare of the breed. Stick around and ask questions and you will learn what you need to know. Find a mentor and join a kennel club. Be a responsible breeder. ![]()
