| Premature puppies are no picnic and have very little chance of survival. I think your vet is doing the wise thing and waiting for her to go into labor naturally. Hopefully, you will see the contractions during the day and even though she would not naturally whelp until later in the evening your vet will feel the time has come and will do the C-section during office hours. Be sure and have the vet save a placenta so you can "wipe" the babies down with it and this helps Mom to accept the puppies when she wakes up from the anesthesia. |

| Lacy's Mom I have to say that I come here to listen, share, and learn. I always learn something new and appreciate all comments. I have never once heard anyone mention about saving a placenta after a c-section to "wipe" down the puppies. As always I have learned something new today and will write that down in my notebook. Thanks for sharing I appreciate all the experience, friendship and knowledge I have found at this site. |

| lisatodd, Not all breeders will xray before whelping. I say it is a must. Exactly for the reason she discovered. It lets you know and be prepared for the number of puppies and discover any situation early which could cause the mother or babies a dangerous situation. So I say it is a must. |

| I also always do an x-ray. Even a Mom that has delivered before can have only one puppy that will grow too big for a natural delivery. It also gives me a good idea on how many to expect so I know when she is done delivering. |

| Wendy, Anything happening? I have been thinking about you and wondering how Zaylee is doing. Let us know!!! Hope everything goes well. Just FYI I spoke with another breeder friend yesterday about xrays. She has been breeding for 30 yrs. She had an xray done once and same situation. Vet said 1 very large puppy. Needs c-section. She even saw xray and thought it herself. Turns out 2 very small puppies delivered on her own. Sometimes puppies can be hiding behind others in xrays and make 2 look like 1. Heres hoping that is the case and all goes well!! |

| Well Zaylee had her puppies last night!!! She of course started at 11:45pm so we had to go the ER vet. Wowser if you can skip that I would do so! We had another xray done at that time and she gave us our choices. She was upset that the vet didn't take the puppies earlier as c-sections while in labor are really really bad. SOO our choices where to try to have her have them on her own (she wanted us to do that) there in the office and she had about a 50/50 chance of it working THEN if that didnt work go ahead with the c-section. Meaning the c-section would of course cost more, but that is what she wanted us to do - or leaned us to do. Zaylee had her puppies the natural way although we are very happy that we took her in because the little one took the whole staff to get her going. So we have two little girls!! One at 4 oz and one at 2.8oz. I have to say that the big one isn't doing too well though. I hate to say it, but I wouldn't be suprised if she doesn't make it. She is also the reason we had to wait 5 hours after to take them home as she wouldn't nurse very well. I am checking on them and getting her to nurse (its taking about 10 min to get her to latch on) so hopefully she will pull through! We have our fingers crossed and we are hoping all will be fine Here's hoping! BTW Just for future breeders or your just thinking of breeding - an ER c-section starts at one vet at $1000 and another at $1500. Just having it all natural at the ER is $300. We (or should I say I) still think it's all worth it though!

| WOW! Sounds like a fun filled evening. I certainly hope both babies pull through. Maybe you can supplement feeding the one. Will she drink from a bottle? They were not that large as it turns out!!! Has she had a litter before? Sophie had a puppy that was 6oz. She is only 4.5 to 5.0lbs herself. She delivered him very easily. I guess it just depends on the dog. Hope all goes well. Cannot wait to see pictures. Glad you gave her a chance to deliver on her own. As it turned out it was much easier on her and YOUR pocket book. |

| Update update! Everyone is doing VERY well and nursing great! I am soooo happy The bigger girl is now finding her way very well with no help at all from me anymore - she just must've needed a little extra care at first. Here are pictures! | Wendy, I am so glad to see they are both doing well and beautiful they are. I just love puppies. Zaylee is beautiful even after having babies. She has that look on her face like "Hey people could I get some privacy here!" Good luck and keep us updated. I know you will. |
