| Temperature Dropped?!?!?!?! Ok, I'm nervous now! I took Grace in yesterday to get weighed. She has gained 2 pounds!!! Wow!! She is not due for another 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. The vet took her temp & told me to take it today & Wednesday, average those, then begin taking her temp again, everyday, starting Monday, and when it drops below 100, she is more than likely in labor, whether she is showing other signs or not. She said at that time, if she hasn't whelped within 24 hours, bring her in immediately! Ok, here's the deal. Her temp yesterday was 102.2. I took it just now, and it's 99.2. No possible way can she have these pups this early & they survive!!!! She is doing nothing unusual. She's eating bits & pieces, drinking, and right now she is sound asleep. Can the temp drop this low & her NOT be in the beginning stages of labor?!?!? HELP! |

My furkids Donating Member | I am not a breeder but, Lillie's Mom delivered a week early. Mom is 4 1/2 lbs and Dad is 3 lbs...The breeder brought her to the vet for an x-ray to see how many babies...there were 5!!!! She never showed signs of going into labor..She just laid down and the pups started coming...Poor thing probably didn't know what was happening to her. They believe that because she had such a large litter this is why she had them a week early. Sadly 3 of the 5 puppies died..I bought the little girl and she is just fine..you would never know she was premature. Maybe you should have your vet look at her...maybe have an x-ray taken...I hope everything is going to work out and she is just fine.. Good Luck GrandMa!!

| I couldn't depend on the temp thing. I took Emilee's temp morning and evening every day the week before she was suppose to deliver. Her temp was all over the place. She whelped right on schedule.

| Well, I decided to take Angel's temp (she is HOPEFULLY about 2 1/2 weeks pregnant, but we don't know for sure yet), and her's is 99.7. So, perhaps my thermometer isn't very accurate, or maybe they are just unusual dogs. . . . who knows. But Grace is just as calm as can be. I've laid my hands on her belly for 10 minutes straight, while she was lying down. No contractions at all, so I'm sure it's just fine. First of I'm sure many panic moments! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Temps will drop to the low 98 degree range, stay there for a while and climb back up. Puppies should be born within 24 hours. With that said, there is NOTHING set in stone. Gracie's first whelp, her temp dropped to low 96 degree range and we had pups by the next morning. Second whelp, she didn't drop that low but in high 97 degree range. But, each dog is different.

| Thank you, Kimberly. I appreciate your input & experiences. So, I guess I will just keep a close eye on her tonight & in the morning, taking the temp again in the morning. My vet will often give guidelines but make them sound like set-in-stone absolutes. |

| She's doing fine. Thank you for asking. No pups yet. I've been charting her temps since Wed. It's been between 99.1 - 100.1, but mostly mid-upper 99's. She is pretty restless, but she hasn't started nesting or anything. I'm just keeping a real close eye on her. Will let everyone know! |
