Breeder Experiences in TEXAS !! [B]If you are in Texas - here are 2 that I am filing on - I have personally been to both! [B]http://www.lloversyorkies.com Betty one more time .... http://www.lloversyorkies.com and this is a REALLY BAD ONE - http://www.yorkiecity.com BRUSHY as (Shady) Creek Kennels - Check BBB On this they are in HOCKLEY TX. This woman had a dirty, sick puppy (with the most awful bite) - poor thing probably couldn't eat...and tried to sell her for almost $1000.00 plus many, many, dogs barking outdoors in the back that we were never allowed to see. Actually - we never made it through the front office! She was a very nasty woman when we called her out on the mis-representation of her dogs. (After driving a long way to see them) Llovers Yorkies has her dogs kept outside - shaved down all the time - breedes the same dogs over and over. Also - she will refer people to another lady - Sandra and these 2 have a scam going...(I've checked cause that's where we got our 1st Yorkie) and she also mis-represents her dogs. |
breeders That is a real shame. There is a breeder near me who keeps his Yorkies in the garage/outside..it is very hot and they have many skin problems. The reason I know is because he asked me to groom his dogs a few years ago and broughtall 6 to me. I had to wash each one 4 times before the water ran clear. I tried to get him to make a place indoors for them, but said his new girlfriend hated dogs in the house. I had to stop grooming them, it upset me too much. |
I hear that Pat! Some people to them there are just dogs ! I hear that allthe time ! I just have to walk off! Makes me so mad! Lily  |
 I am mortified!!! How could anyone treat ANY dog this way? Especially a little Yorkie!! Isn't there someone in these areas these people can be reported to?? |
Reporting Breeders I was so mad about my 2 experiences that I wrote a long letter detailing everything - posted it on forums, emailed it to anywhere I could find...wrote the AKC, and am still looking for the SPCA in Hockley TX ! I am not giving up even thought I found a beautiful puppy. We have had her a week now today!! As of this morning - I got some response from the AKC and had wrote them back with more info and hopefully they will monitor some of these people who use the AKC NAME!!! The nasty woman at Brushy Creek Kennels (www.yorkiecity.com) aka "Shady" Creek has not heard the end of me - thats for sure - I felt so bad for that little puppy I say....she's on my list "To NAIL !" |
abuse Bettyeanne..sorry I spelled your name wrong in the other post. I have been involved with Yorkies as a pet owner, breeder/show for over 30 yrs. In that time I have seen so much abuse it breaks my heart. I reported him to Animal control, they went to look, said the Yorkies had shelter, the garage. They had a yard ..they had food and water. Even though the garage was not heated/AC and the dogs were dirty, it did not add up to abuse. I have been accused of being a fanatic by Animal Control when it comes to Yorkies. We built on to our home so the Yorkies could be comfortable. They think I treat my dogs like humans and for the most part ignore me. I tried AKC and they inspected his records since he was breeding, all was in order. Ungroomed and being housed in a garage/outside is not against any AKC regs. This situation is really quite minor compared to the bad cases. |
Breeders Hi everyone ! You would not belive how some keep there yorkies ! Makes me so mad! We built a kennel for our dog got about 12,000. in and still don't have got all done! 6 live in the house at all time! Most people are amaze when the come in to the kennel ! Man i could live in here! Then there are some That think we are crazy for putting so much money in it! That's ok we love them all! lily :) :) |

Pat - you little Fanatic!!! Hey Pat - RE: You being called a fanatic...I guess the same thing might happen with me huh? Thats ok - the more people who go and check these people out - the better chance the dogs have of their "People who keep them" (I will NOT say take care of them!) cleaning up their act .......but I doublt it! I have also been contacted by the AKC who has given me some names - so I've been very busy Copying and pasting!!! I actually WANT That Brushy Creek place and Betty at LLoversyorkies to KNOW it's me because I did have a few "words" via email with one and via phone with the other!! Also I am posting the Rescue link for Yorkies - I've seen people looking for it. http://hometown.aol.com/eiswirthl/SMALLDOGRESCUE.html |
I totally agree with the eyes being the window to their souls bettyeanne! That's why I trusted my breeder so much, all the puppies there looked very happy and full of energy. I saw them discipline them as well (they peed on the carpet) and it was stern, but not violent or overly aggressive. Breeder visits are essential in my opinion before getting a Yorkie from a place! |
I Know This Breeder Too Well I found this thread through a google search. I am not a Yorkie owner, but a bulldog owner who bought from Brushy Creek Kennels. This operation is sham and we need to act to stop them. My dog is one of the most sickly dogs my vet has ever seen. I am continuing to research Brushy Creek, but so you all know and can spread the word, they operate businesses with the following breeds: Cavalier king Charles Spaniels - brushycreekkennel.com English Bulldogs - englishbulldogshop.com French Bulldogs - frenchbulldogcity.com Greyhounds - greyhoundcity.com Yorkies - yorkiecity.com Read the sites - they cut and paste the breed into the text. I am OUTRAGED by them and am trying to pursue action. Please reply if you'd like to join. I suggest a first step is stoping their Web master. ANother is to submit a report to the better business bureau - I did! Please contact me if you are interested. Glad to find others to align with! |
That's HORRIBLE moxymo! Have you considered contacting the local police at all? If your bulldog is sick, it may have been due to animal abuse or something else horrible. Anyways, thanks for letting us know about your experience with them. Perhaps we can help others avoid the same problems you have faced! |
moxymo, I was curious about the Continental Airlines shipping arrangements and in my Google search also found that they also offer: Jack Russell Terriers Bernese Mountain Dogs Cairn Terriers Westie Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers AND the following came from the Continental site regarding shipping! Continental Airlines: 800-575-3335 "Quick Pack" for live animals - cost is $175.00 [$169.00 + fuel freight and security sur-charge] Cargo charge is figured city to city and by the dimensional weight of the carrier plus a fuel freight and security charge based on both actual and dimensional wieght. In explanation: a 100 series carrier, ex small, has a dimensional weight that is figured to be 18 lbs. and the small carrier is figured with a dimensional weight of 33 lbs. Generally, the cargo charge to ship a kitten/cat will be $95.63 plus $5.00 fuel weight and security sur-charge or $100.63. Note: Because of their Quick Pack service for live animals and its consequent safety to the animals, Continental only offers cargo shipment of live animals in the Spring months. I recently flew from Atlanta to Denver with Toto on her first flight ... in cabin, under seat ... and she was absolutely traumatized!! They would not let me open her carrier on the plane and I had to endure the flight, listening to my baby's occasional "pleading" just to snuggle on my lap!!! At one point, I quietly slipped her out, wrapped her in my sweater and she didn't move or make a sound ... simply went to sleep ... one of the attendants saw her and summoned a male attendant, who rudely and loudly [as if I were wearing a hearing aide] said "Ma'am ... the DOG cannot be out of the carrier"! Before I could move to put her back, he repeated himself in the same tone as if I didn't hear him! I simply looked him in the eye and quietly said "I know" and placed her back in the carrier! Needless to say, that was the first flight on that airline ... and the last!!! I cannot imagine one stored like baggage and listening to the roaring sound in that compartment for that length of time!!! My question is: How can a kennel breed over ten different breeds and properly care for them all? I would imagine that it would have to be a HUGE operation!! Have you seen their kennel? I hope that your puppy will turn out to be healthy after all your effort! Please keep us updated! |
What?!?!? That's horrible, maybe we should report them to the AKC and all that. That's so wrong. I also had that experiece too, I drove from waco to OK last easter to pick up a yorkie baby, and the owner had all these dogs everywhere and they wouldn't let me see the place where the yorkie is living and when the puppy came out, he's all dirty and sick and was coughing too. I felt really bad so I bought him home anyway, when i washed him, he had all kinds of mud and dirt, maybe poo too on him, and he was so scare of everything. Later, I found out that , that puppy wasn't even a yorkie, it was a silk terrier... I took him to the vet and he had all kinds of problem and stuff, I tried to contact the breeder and tell him what's wrong with him..but he was so rude and ignored my phone-calls and e-mail, so I had my sister called him, he picked up right away. I felt so angry and bad. Anyway, there are way too many horrible breeders out there, and they needed to be stop. Let me know if I can help in any way. |
RESPONSE TO SHADY CREEK dba Brushy Creek Kennels I have responded to the post about Brushy (Shady) Creek vial AOL mail - I have emails from inspectors who were susposed to check them out - I hope you keep on this cause this is my letter and I saw a poor Yorkie with the most distended stomach they tried to sell me - her bite was so bad all her top teeth were covered by her bottom teeth...and they were all crooked - she was in need of a home and I had to force myself to walk away after seeing this place and that ugly woman ! My letter: (sorry - it's kind of long) My letter to AKC July 31, 2004 I have been looking at Yorkie puppies for 4 months now - I did get one - but NOT from the breeders I am writing about. I need to report them to someone who will respond to this. Please read this and hopefully, you will help. I personally have been to both of the breeders I am writing about in TX that are totally mis-representing and selling unhealthy puppies. I purchased a sick puppy from one - 2 years ago, and while looking this past 4 months - I went to a kennel in Hockley TX where the puppy she brought outside to show us, had a severe bite problem and the most awful Distended stomach, that I reported it at once to anyone I could via email. This Breeder wouldn't even let us into their place of business - she came outside and we stayed there looking at the dog. I noticed immediately it was ill - she had emailed me several pictures of very cute puppies - after we drove for 2 hours - she laughed and said it was a misunderstanding and this is the only dog for sale! (Misunderstanding ? - after 4 emails with pictures and prices?) she got upset when we asked about the dogs bite - I never mentioned the belly - I felt it and it was NOT normal for a puppy, it was HUGE! I have posted this Breeder Ethics letter I wrote on many (Yorkie) forums and gotten so much feedback about these 2 Breeders that I thought I would try you and see who could check them out. Please help me - I was so angry about that sick puppy and both of them have many, many animals you can hear - but they won't let you see. The 2 Breeders Websites are Lloversyorkies.com in Richmond TX (Betty) - she and another woman pass off dogs as AKC...the other one is Brushy (aka Shady) Creek Kennels - www.yorkiecity.com in Hockley, TX (Dawn). If you monitor who uses your AKC reputation...there are many people who can testify to these awful uncaring breeders! Thank you - Villette Rochford, Houston, TX (Owner of 2 Yorkies) Below is only 1 response I have - there are others on the Forums - COPY OF LETTER ON FORUM – Anonymous OMG!! I freaked out when I saw the name of the breeder that you dealt with... They are the ones that I got koko from!! I came onto this website asking questions about them when I was looking for a yorkie and every1 was leary (sp?) about them.. I was promised 2 puppies from the same litter, but both were sick and couldn't fly... They refused to answer my phone calls, refund my $$, they said that my pup was on the flight & she wasn't, etc.... I picked Koko up 2 months after I paid my $$ and I got lucky, she was actually on this flight w/a man that sounded a lot like the guy who I spoke to on the phone (it was supposed to be his brother from Ireland)... Anyway, my husband refers to them as "Shady Creek" and I will never be so uninformed in the future about where my puppy is coming from... I really feel for you... I was attached to Koko from Day 1 and I can't imagine having to part w/her... Things will get better, let these ladies in Texas help you & I'll help you spread the word about "Brushy Creek" a.k.a. "Shady Creek"... So sorry for all of your troubles... My question is - Who is out there helping the poor puppies being sold unhealthy - and why are they saying AKC Registered - If you had seen the puppy I saw it would have made you ill. I can go back and gather more info if necessary - please let me know something. Thank you again. |
Good, I hope they do something about this! I'm thinking if ANYONE buys from this breeder, and they really are AKC-registered, that AKC has to bear some responsibility if there's people out there complaining mightily about this breeder's unethical practices. Yes, AKC registration can be a good thing, but if they have no requirements or never check up on complaints, it's going to make the AKC name worthless! So let us know if AKC ever responds red98vett! :) |
I think the AKC should take responsibility for dogs that are registered to them. They are making money off of these breeders, but don't seem to care the condition these dogs live in. I know that the AKC can't go look at every breeders set up, but when red flags go up they should look into it. I wonder how much money the AKC makes of just the Yorkie breed a year. Yesterday I went with my mom and sister to some antique shops in a small town by Beaumont. On the way home we stopped at there new super Walmart. I went to go pick them up by the door, because my sister has 6 cats and 2 dogs so you can imagine the stuff she had for them :p I saw this car with dog carriers on them with puppies in them. We had got a cool front in and the wind was blowing and it was misting. Needless to say I was pissed off. I told them what type of breeder would sell dogs from a parking lot in this weather or at any time. They told me what they thought about me as I did them. By the time I go to pick my sister and mom up, I was fumming. They could tell I was pissed. Long story but mom went in the store and asked if it was ther practice to let puppymill sell dogs in there parking lot. They said absolutely NO. The manager and a big guy went to talk to them and called the police for being on there property selling. I really wanted to knock the poot out of them and take all the dogs. I thought of those poor dogs all night. Just had to vent...............Cindy |
Amazing what people will do to make a few dollars! The best thing we can do is just to tell people we know NOT to buy from that kind of breeder and if there's real animal abuse, to report them to the police. |
My question is, is there anyway to hold the AKC responsible for having such low standards as to allow dogs to be treated like this? It's just awful! It just breaks my heart to think of the pain and poor condition those little girls are in that are being bred. With the Yorkies in general being a small dog, I can't even imagine what this is doing to their little bodies. What about the local newspaper? Can you contact them and ask them to do a story about this? |
I hate to admit it but I have done business with Llovers Yorkies for years but this is my last time - I used one of her males for breeding several times and have taken people by there to buy puppies. Everytime I've been there every thing has been neat & clean and dogs were in an airconditioned room - but she also knew I was coming by. I bought a puppy from her a few months ago and I just dropped in and you are right - things were not clean and dogs were everywhere. She is adorable and wouldn't trade her for anything. She told me she had a championship bloodline but when I got my stuff from AKC there were no championships in immediate bloodline - maybe way down there. She also put a limited registration on my puppy - Mikenna. I spent lots of dollars on breeding with one of her males who did have a championship bloodline and he was beautiful and made beautiful puppies. I paid a lot for Mikenna too and I couldn't believe she put limitation on her. I emailed her and told her how upset I was and haven't heard a thing from her and since then I have heard all kinds of bad things about her. I too have written AKC because she did not tell me there was a limitation on my registration. Mikenna is very small and I wouldn't breed her anyway because of her size but the idea of her putting a limitation on my puppy after all the money I have made for her. I have another yorkie, Mikayla (just turned 8)...she was my first and then we got Bailey (would have been 7 in December)who passed away in April. Liked to have killed my husband and I. Never knew I could be so attached. I have been very depressed since Bailey passed away but I think she is reincorinated in Mikenna. Mikenna likes the same toys Bailey had, she acts like her, everything. My life has lighted up since Mikenna came to our home. When I walke upon Betty's porch I knew instantly that she was the puppy I wanted and I hadn't even touched her yet-just knew she was the one. I looked all up Dallas way for puppies but just didn't like the way some of them looked and the feeling I got from the people selling them. When I had puppies for sale everyone came into my house and saw where the puppies were kept what kind of house I had and everything. I made birth cetificates up with their weight when they were born and how long they were and what order it was in along with info on thier parents. I did turn one lady down because she had 3 small all under the age of 5 children - no way was one of my puppies going to that home. I did sell one to a lady who had 2 small sons 5 & 6 and that puppy is so spoiled. They bring him by to see me every now and agian and the boys are so protective of him. I turned down several people just a feeling I got from them. Ok I've rambled enough. If I can be of any help with anyone let me know. |
Thanks for the update kaylabug, welcome to YorkieTalk. Feel free to introduce your little one and or share pictures! :) |
that is just horible. you should also report them to the humaine society. Maybe they can shut them down. Before we got chester my husband and i would just spend Saturdays driving around seeing puppies... We went to this ladies home it was two hours away and we nearly got lost coming home it was so dark no lights at all. Any way when we got there she had 5 puppies , they were not yorkies , but they were still cute. Anyway she said she had a few more in the barn that was right infront of us. she walked in an shut the door so fast it was not funny. It was obious she did not want us to see there condition. she came out with the puppy 15 to 20 min later. The puppy was covered in saw dust and was very dirty smelly and she said... Here is the "*****". Now I know breeders use the term for female dogs... but it was the way she said it... and it was so mean... and she kept asking us about the money when I clearly told her we were just viewing at the time. I swear the place was a puppy mill. I wish I had know the area wear she lived.. I would have reported her ...horible women. She obiously did not care about us at all. I can not rember one question she ask use except for the money. I belive the hurmian sociatey investigates people like this or at least tries to save the dogs . |
Hi...I also do not have a Yorkie, but purchased a Westie from Brushy Creek Kennel. The dog is sick...coughing, sneezing, runny nose, etc. I have seen two vets and one trainer so far because in addition to the physical issues, she is what is called a "dirty puppy". She has no interest in housebreaking although she is very smart, and is perfectly willing to lay in the wet. I have been told that this is due to the conditions she was forced to live in.....she didn't know anything else for the first weeks of her life. I have also not been able to get paperwork or shot records (another story) despite contacting Mr. Moore and his office manager weekly for the past month. I wish there was something I could do to make his practices known. |
Thanks for alerting me!! I was doing some research on Yorkies in Texas, looking for a small female pup for my daughter and ran across the Shady Creek Kennels. I emailed him a question and just received a response that he would have a few after his brother brings them back from Europe. I was so excited. Then I ran across this forum and saw some of the posts and was so relieved that I didn't send any money to hold the puppies. I admit this is my first experience buying a dog. I live in Magnolia, just outside of Hockley and thought what great luck I had. Thanks to all of you for alerting me to the scam. I just feel so sorry for all those puppies treated that way. |
 How could people have such cruel hearts? One, being they're cheating people out of their money and two, neglecting those little puppies like that. That's just horrible. |

Natalie, Thank you so much for the info. I don't mind the drive to Duncanville. I used to live there for 10 years. Quite a coincidence. I am still trying to find a local breeder where I can visit the home and see the parents and play with the little pup and see the environment he grew up in. We live about an hour northwest of Houston. My whole family is really ready for a puppy and to make that committment that it takes. The puppy is going to be a member of our family. I am not interested in a championship bloodline, just coming from a loving family. So I can only pay about $500 for a female pup. Really appreciate your response. |
dkdoughty: I am from Houston also and this is my first post as I am very new here. I looked in the paper every week but I haven't found a yorkie female for $500 they average about $1000 on the HoustonChronicle.com. If I see or know of one I will relay that info to you ok. I am expecting a litter of yorkie pup after tax season but i think I will keep them all...eheheheeheh if I do decide to sell one or two.. I will let you know. This litter will be my first yorkie litter. I presently have a litter of Siberian huskies. I have these two breeds cus I love them both. My yorkies stay in side and my husky have the yard. |
sexcbrucelee: Thanks for the reply. Keep me posted. I am trying to get ahold of the Yorkie Club in Houston to see if they can offer any info on reputable breeders. I really want a female, maybe 2 . Just a healthy , well adjusted puppy that makes a great pet. We are not into the breeding experience, which is why I assume females are more expensive. So I have been to the library and checked out "THe Idiots Guide to Puppies." Now I need to study crating and so forth. Been a long time since I had a puppy. When I was a kid, they ran free outside, now the world is so different. Much thanks, and best wishes on the litter. |
