Brushy Creek I am relieved that I found this forum. I live in Houston and have been searching for a wheaten terrier. I found an add in the chronical for a female wheaten! I was so excited! I called and they told me they were Brushy Creek Kennels and I could go to wheatencity.com to see a picture of the puppy! I made an appointment to go see the puppy later that evening. Once I got there, she brought the puppy to me. I wanted to see the living conditions, but I didn't get a chance to. I heard a ton of barking going on in the back. I thought from reading the website that they were hobby breeders, raising wheatens at home! I asked for papers on the parents and they said they didn't have any. I got worried. I said I would come back Sat. to get the puppy. Then I found this forum the next day. I couldn't believe what I read! This place appeared to be so nice and clean from the front! I found that they breed at least 12 different types of dogs and they all have the same website with the breed name plugged into the description of the founders history with that breed! I am not purchasing the puppy, but I feel so terrible to leave that precious little girl behind! I talked to an expert in the area and she advised me to NOT buy from them and I would only be supporting what they do. They don't have a good rep, but I don't think enough people know to stay away. They put on a good front being a nice one breed kennel. It's decieving! After watching that one puppy mill that was busted recently in Houston on the news, I feel like now might be the time to take action on these guys. People are aware and concerned right now because it's in the media. Has any progress been made? |
Action in Houston? I am not a memeber of this forum and don't check here often, but would like to connect with you to find our most about the station that covered these breeders in Houston? I am in Chicago and can try to contact the media with this story, but hopefully we can catch up offline. It's hard for me to check the forum. I hope you understand. My name is Molly and my email is moxymo@hotmail.com. I would love to have you help us out. Thanks. Molly |
So everyone knows I believe an investigator DID go to Hockley TX to Brushy Creek Kennels and We are starting to put the word out with other people who have been sold or looked at sick puppies and want these people SHUT DOWN !!! I have had further contact with Better at llovers yorkies in Richmond TEXAS pretending to need info about my Chanel - and she ADMITTED to me she sold me a sick puppy ...said she had just had a fire and was going thru a divorce - Well I found out that story had been told since 1999. She and her partner (?) then proceeded to call my house screaming obscenities !!! I was a little shocked but actually laughed it was so ludricris ! This is one lowlife of a breeder and so is Shady Creek Kennels ! |
Good job, red98vett!!!! Perhaps staying after these people will yield results! My daughter [in AL] wants a Westie and has been searching ... it's so difficult to try to teach her long distance but she has promised me that she won't do anything impulsive! She will make such a good "mom" to her baby when she finds it but in the meantime I am trying desperately to find one for her so she won't be taken in by low life breeders such as these!! She loves Toto with all her heart but readily understands that a Yorkie is not the breed for her family! Keep up the good work!! |
Everytime I read this thread it makes my stomach turn. I nearly bought a puppy from bushy creek (or whatever there name is) and by the grace of God I went with the other breeder and I could not be more greatful! I wish it were easier to find out who the bad breeders are. I asked them a ton of questions and they just had all the right answers. |
Wow, that's just horrible. I remember calling her when I was looking for my Yorkie because I saw her ad in the mail. I checked her website and saw that she had been breeding for a good amount of years (and at this time, I wasn't an active member of this forum to even know that breeders can be deceitful, horrible people) and when I called, I could hardly hear her over all the barking in the background. And then all of a sudden, she cut off and told her husband to "Shut them up!" and started talking to me so normally and nicely. I would never buy a yorkie from someone that tells their puppies to shutup. That's horrible. We should do something about it. I'm sure with breeding all those breeds, their living conditions are filthy. |
I really didn't have a good feeling from driving up to meeting her - and then seeing that poor sick yorkie - I do have to say the yorkie was totally friendly though - despite him/her poor swollen belly and totally messed up teeth...I wanted to scoop it up and take it away - but for &$800.00... couldn't afford it... and who did she think she was kidding ? |
Check out this page http://www.yorkiecity.com/newarrivals.html Then you tell me if they all look like the same puppy..... |
Pardon my language, but that pisses me off and they need to be shut down!! What can be done? |
As long as peoples will want pups from them , they'll stay . |
Shady Creek is selling shunt puppies--a womderful lady bought 2 from her and both had it--they got the surgery and are fine now but that's a lot to spend just to turn around and spend it again to get them well again! |
As someone who's been to Hockley and met that awful woman - I am so not surprised that she is selling ill puppies - how sick is that ! I think people like that need to be reported and shut down asap...How very sad for people looking fro a new puppy and have no idea what they're getting into.... I truly hope these posts help SOMEONE avoid Brushy Creek Kennels and www.Lloversyorkies.com Platinum Yorkies - Those pictures of those puppies are so sad - makes you want to hug those poor babies.... #1 and #4 sure looks like the same puppy ! wonder why they did that - it sure has the exact same face and hair - and most puppies have some marking that makes them different from their siblings - and 2 & 3 look pretty close too? hmmmmm..... |
Red98vett, they sure do look the same, this is so sad....I think both of these breeders haven't met their match yet. They are going to come accross a buyer with a mouth like theirs, and I think they will clean up their act. [I think it is pretty sad to have breeders out there like them. She knew those babies were sick when she sold them.....The nerve of some people. How do she sleep at night. |
Trouble w/ Texas Breeder I have had trouble as well. I purchased a male Yorkie from a breeder in Seguin, Texas (Sheila). He ended up being a monorchid (hope that is spelled correctly). When I spoke to another breeder in the area, he told me that rumor had it that the lady had been using a monorchid stud and knew it. She sold me this puppy with breeding rights! I had absolutely no intentions of breeding him after I realized his problem. When I contacted the breeder about the problem she just told me that she did not guarantee anything when it came to breeding. Well, it was not a matter of him not being able to breed (most likely he could have) rather it was a health issue. The undescended testicle could eventually become cancerous. She just told me that she'd never had that problem before and that she could not help me. Unfortunately we had nothing in writing so there was not much I could do. I did sell the puppy last year and told his new owner the whole story- she did not mind that he had this problem. So I am just wanting you all to be aware of this problem. Accoring to my vet, you should be able to feel both testicles by the time the pup is 6 weeks. Some take a little longer to descend but should be descended by the time the pup is 10-12 weeks old. I wish I knew then what I knew now!! |
Sorry, poor baby...She needs to be stopped  :thumbdown |
I Would Like to Get this Thread to Take Action I have been working the the District Attorney, the AKC and the local sheriff to take action against Brushy Creek. Many people are commenting on this thread about the Brushy Creek experience, but I have no real way to contact any of you to take action. I would like to provide the DA and the AKC with a list of people that are willing to write a formal complaint (or at least document their experience). If you are interested (I would prefer to take the discussions of the action (and only the action I plan on taking) off this forum and into the realworld. I don't all of this documented online. I think it's a good idea to continue to provide others warnings like this online. Please forward the following to my personal email account at moxymo@hotmail.com: Your Name Your Email where I can reach you A Phone number if you'd like I would like to get a group of about 8-10 people to work on their own documentation of their experience and I will work to submit this to the proper authorities. If you have any questions, please send them to my email as opposed to posting to this thread. I hope you understand my reason for wanting to take this conversation into the private space, and also wanting to turn chat into action. I hope you are willing to help me and the dogs that are being abused at Brushy Creek. To end, my dog purchased through brushy creek just turned 2, and 2 weeks after her birthday, was diagnosed with heart failure. She has about 6 months to live. You can understand now why I am done talking about it, and want to take action now. Thanks, Molly |
Molly - I'm so very very sorry for you - that has to be just breaking your heart. It really doesn't surprise me but I hate to hear about it happening and you and your baby BOTH don't deserve this - how sad for you...this makes me cry just thinking about it. I give full permission to use anything I've posted - and hope it helps you - I didn't buy a puppy from them - but I was sure upset with what I saw... Since I walked away from that horrible place it's haunted me and though I tried to make people aware and even reported it to the Hockley police - I don't know if I really did any good - who knows how serious they took me - I'm very very sorry about your baby - I did email you and anything you need from me just ask - I'm with you on this - OK ???? |
I was still digesting your tragedy about your baby - 2 years is just horrible to be facing heart failure...I really feel terrible for you...Did you get a yorkie or another breed from her ? I know some people emailed me and they had purchased sick puppies (not yorkies) it's just so wrong - she HAS to know what she's doing - there's too many people now that I've heard of having these problems - and there are LOTS of problems - What a shame she's still in business ....It makes me so angry ! No one is looking out for these little guys and they're at the mercy of these horrible people ! I hope you can get them shut down - I'll be more than happy to help if I can. Again - I'm so sorry. |
Llovers Yorkies??? OMG... this is the person who i bought one of my yorkies from!! I just joined this site today gazing thru, checking it out, and then i see her website...which by the way is not coming up?? perhaps i have a bad connection or ???? anyway...wow??.... its gotta be the same lady i got one of my babies from... its very disturbing to read all this since i've been thinking for several yrs that she was a good person w/ good pups...i even told a cpl of coworkers about her who then told some of their friends and so quite a few have bought yorkies from her also besides me. i know my paranoid self is gonna start wondering if every little ailment or sneeze is a sign of some disease or something!! i know this sounds overly paranoid but i had a horrible, terrible experience a few yrs ago w/ an unreputable breeder in my hometown near corpus christi!! soooo.... sorry if i sound extremely anxious!! may i ask if anyone on here has bought any yorkie from llovers/betty?? i am just curious as to how old the dogs are now and what their health has been like??!! I will share any info'n that anyone asks me also. |
I DID go to Brushy Creek...did not buy - but I DID buy from Lloversyorkies and it's really amazing how you just mentioned these 2....you can pm me... Chanel came from Betty...She is EXTREMLY healthy but I had a bad experience dealing with her once we brought her home.... as she became very sick with coccidia - A friend of mine (not on this site) also got her 5 year old from Betty - Her baby had 2 knee surgeries before the age of 1, has severe allergies and is now being treated. She also weighs 14 lbs....Betty told her AND me many lies about her yorkies.... I feel blessed and very lucky Chanel is as healthy as she is and my heart goes out to my friend with her baby ps...you should share your experience with the breeder near Corpus with people. |
Corpus Christi Please share your experience w/ the breeder near Corpus! What happened? I am near Corpus. Who was this breeder so that I can stay away! If you do not want to post a name here, then please pm me. |

When I was looking for Cheri - we took the trip to Brushy Creek and got ill seeing the puppy they showed us - that poor baby had the worst extended tummy I ever saw and it wasn't even the puppy they emailed me about ...I wrote them a long letter and said they didn't hear the end of me - and after further checking and posting I found many many people who were sold very sick puppies from them. They were rude and mean after I contacted them and to tell you the truth - I reported them over the condition of the puppy...it had the worst crooked teeth and couldn't even close it's little mouth properly.... and had to have some kind of parasite for it to be that swollen - the very second I touched that poor baby I felt sick to my stomach they would let him be in that condition. |

Just checking. You know, we all talked the other day about getting your husband a Yorkie of his very own. Thought you might have slipped one past us. With this crew, I'd say that would be pretty hard to do. :aimeeyork |
Girl - If I had another baby it would be PLASTERED all over the site - lol..no - this was a year ago July. It's had great response.... and I've talked to many people who had heartbreaking experiences ...so I'm glad this thread is still here a year later. |
Breeder Allen out of the Richmond/Rosenberg area I am also glad this thread was up and running when I started researching breeders in Texas. I never made the trip to Hockley, but made phone calls and emails and was on the verge of a visit. Thank you guys for the warning. I have continued to look for a reputable breeder in the Houston area. I got the name of a breeder named C. Allen out of the Richmond/Rosenberg area. She breeds chichahau(sp?), japanese chins, and yorkies. I have made several calls to her after our initial conversation and have not received a response. Has anyone heard of her? Thanks |
No I haven't but breeding multiple breeds isn't a good sign - but I won't say anything because I have not dealt with them personally. If they contact you - Are you going to go visit first ? IF I were you... I'd go look around and see what goes on first before you buy ...and that's hard to do cause you may fall in love though... :) The other thing you can do is post a new post here and ASK if anyone knows them - Texas is a BIG state - you never know who may see it. Good luck! |
Absolutely, I will go and look behind the scenes before buying. The net is indeed very scary, but I will just walk slowly through all this. How can someone raise so many litters of different dogs at the same time? I am a stay at home mom and just one child and 2 cats has me going around the clock. Again, I appreciate the reply, intend to call the breeder again and request a visit. If no response, that's a red flag I should move on and fast. |
My heart breaks as I read all the posts with bad things about Brushy Creek. I purchased a very sick Yorkie from them almost a year ago. When we first learned that she was sick, everyone said I should take her back, but by that point I was in love with her. It turns out she had pneumonia, which they think started out as kennel cough, which did not respond to antibiotics. After almost 6 months of treatment at Gulf Coast Animal Hospital in Houston(I love them!!!), she finally is well. Although she has residual lung damage, she is wonderful. The sad thing, is that even after all that i went through with mine, which i thought was just a fluke because she is so small, until now i would have considered getting another puppy from her. Thank you so much for this posting...people have got to be informed so that no one will buy puppies from them...that's the only way that it will stop....this makes me want to take out an add in the chronicle classifieds saying not to buy from them.... If you need any help with going to the DA please let me know, I can help with any legal issues. |
