I didnt think what you said was harsh.
I think when you get into show quality, theres new rules, and they have been around along time and I just dont know them.
I completely understand protecting lines. People work yrs to get their beautiful creations
I understand not all people are upfront and honest either. Unfortunately they will lie, its been done to me, and thats why Im going to be more strict.
Yes I have been extremely fortunate to meet the people I have. They have their rules too and I respect them.

In regards to my CKC girls.....I just love them and cant bare to part with them right now.

Please excuse my ignorance on this, it's all new to me.

Trying to understand 'co-ownership' .....With the seller being a co-owner, what does it mean for them?? If the seller has strict contracts for the buyer to sign & those contracts are binding in a court of law, why would the seller need to be on still as a co-owner?? Is there some kind of financial gain for the seller by being a co-owner?? lets say...if the co-owned pup made money through commercials, TV, prizes, ads, etc....would the seller collect on money erned also?? Is being a co-owner a way to insure recieving a future pup free if/when the original pup breeds?? I'm just trying to understand why the seller would want to be a co-owner if they already have a contract that specifies all their requirement regarding the pup.

Another question....whats the difference between AKC & CKC? Why is not good to have them mix?

I cant answer regarding the co ownership.
But AKC is just a much stricter, respected, registry that require DNA testing of studs after so many litters so parentage can be confirmed if needed. Easier to keep people honest.
CKC is alot more lenient, and allow for mixed purebred registries such as yorkie poos, morkies, etc. They do not require DNA testing. They will allow registry by photos and references.
There are some very nice CKC dogs out there, and if you want a pet, trust the breeder, then registry isnt that important.
But if you want to show, breed etc......AKC is a better registry IMO.

I both buy and sell on co-ownership unless the dog is spayed/neutered till their AKC championship is obtained. Since I get a pick puppy back from the bitch, I will be listed as co-breeder of that litter. That will allow me to show this puppy (if it turns out) in the Bred By Exhibitor class at shows. This class allows one to showcase their breeding stock. I love to show and finish out of the BBE class. It also allows ME to show the dog in BBE class. Say the new owner is in an accident, then I can show the dog in BBE. By AKC rules, you must be both breeder and owner of the dog to show in that class. If I sell a dog on co-ownership and the owner dies, then the dog will come back to me, as I am the other owner. If they have a significant other that is into showing, then I would have no problem allowing the dog to stay there. But what if the SO was not interested in the dog? By having a co-ownership, the dog cannot be sold to a third party (although that is written into my contracts) without my permission. I will be able to get the dog returned to me by contract. Once the AKC title is obtained, and I have my pick puppy, I sign off the bitch. I sign off my males once they have obtained their AKC championship. I do, however, retain lifetime stud rights on the dog.

As far as AKC vs CKC. CKC is NOT a recognized registry. They will register anything with 4 legs. Although you can physically breed an AKC and CKC dog, you cannot register the dog in AKC. Don't get me wrong, AKC loves their money too, but at least the dogs must be purebred, not designer dogs, and both must be AKC registered. An litter between AKC/CKC may be purebred (you hope), but will only be an unregistered loving pet.
I often wonder when breeders register with CKC, are they hiding something? Had they previously been suspended by AKC? Probably not....but food for thought.

Thanks so much for your contribution to the thread. You listed excellent reasons to maintain co-ownership. It is experienced breeders, like yourself, that will aid in the learning for newbies like me. I'm nowhere near ready to show or breed but I'm putting away all the information I can get in preparation!

Thanks Julie! I'm not familiar with all the particulars of Showing a dog. I can see how being a co-owner helps in showing a dog now. For the pups that are sold for breeding, are they required to be a Show dog also??

Yes, if the dog is good enough to be bred, then IMO, it is good enough to be shown. Now, say something should happen, the dog jumps off the couch and breaks a leg. That may or may not end its show career depending on the break. But it would not affect the dog's breeding potential. Therefore, I would allow the dog to be bred without finishing. Most people want to learn to show, however, I will help to finish the dog, at the owner's expense. I do not charge a fee, but the owner pays for the entrys and helps with expenses (ie gas).

Sometimes this gives them the opportunity to have some ownership themselves of any future litters the dog may produce. I don't know if you were planning to breed or what...? Co-ownership only works when you have a show breeder who goes in half to co own and show a dog. Usually in a case like that, they're really good friends to begin with and know what to expect of each other.

Um, I know you didn't mean this the way I took it, at least I hope not...but my dogs and our recent and future litters are and will be CKC registered. I can assure you, I have nothing to hide and I can assure you our dogs are pure Yorkies. I realize it may be easier to lie w/ CKC registry (although a lyar can do it w/ AKC just as easily), but to assume all CKC breeders are this way is wrong...cause I'm one of them. It irritates me to no end to hear statements like this and know that I am being included in 'that' group of people.

Sorry, I did not mean to imply that all CKC breeders are unethical or have something to hide. Registering with AKC or UKC for that matter does not make a breeder ethical. Look at all the puppy mills with their "AKC registered" dogs. I guess my guestion to you would be, why did you choose to register with CKC rather than AKC? Because I show, my dogs must be AKC registered. I have also shown in UKC so some have dual registration.

Thanks for speaking up on behalf of CKC breeders. Your point is well taken.
