| Temp dropped to 97 on day 59! Scared and excited!!! My little girl is 3 years old expecting her first litter, a tall yorkie that typically weighs 8 lb. she didn't gain much girth, most people doubt her pregnancy but her milk has been coming in and her temp was 97.1 this morning. I am super nervous because she didn't get very round ( she thickened up below her ribs but never quite as big as her ribs) and her tummy didn't drop. Could this be an indicator that we will have issues with the babies naturally getting to the birth canal? The puppy movement is not nearly as visible as many videos. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. I hope all goes well for your little girl. Have you taken her to the vet to comfirm that she is indeed pregnant? A false pregnancy will have the exact same signs as a real pregnancy. Do you know how many times she was bred? It could be that the pups have not dropped yet. Sometimes the temperature will go up and down based on the momma blood sugar levels. Also I have seen temperature drops several days before delivery when the pups actually drop. It is impossible to tell if your girl will have any difficulty whelping. Sometimes with small litters the pups tend to get larger thus making delivery more difficult. An x-ray could tell if there are any extra large pups that will be difficult to deliver. Once the pup or pups have dropped you can usually feel them easily in the groan area. Watch your girl closely and don't leave her alone for very long. Also make sure you have a vet on standby. It would also be nice if you had someone experienced with whelping pups there to help you.

| I always have xrays done on this day to determine skull size/pelvic ratio...that will clearly let you know how many babies to expect, as well if they are too big for her to deliver normally. This is all information that could save your mommas life, if done in a timely manner. Kind keeps YOU ahead of the event, so you know what to expect.....also great to know how many babies to expect, rather than that old guessing game that frequently fails for novices and can cause the death of momma and babies because of toxicity to momma from retained placentia/dead baby. |
