Not at the moment, unfortunately. I do have a vet on call for emergencies, but other than that all I have is what I did assisting my breeder whelp a litter and all the reading I've done and videos I've watched. That's it :S

				 | Genetic and health testing is a must if you decided to breed again. Also do you have a plan for if the mother does not except the baby's because you will have to feed them like every two hours if that is the case. Also make sure you know all the signs of distress so if she is having problems you can get her to the vet asap.

Unfortunately, I did not. I didn't think/want to question my breeder's choice, but I definitely will going forward. I don't know a lot about these tests. Is it something the regular vet performs? How do I go about getting this done and can it get done any time or must it be done right before breeding again? Thank you so much for your response and input!

My plan at the moment is to tag team with my husband taking time off from work, and hopefully a friend or two to take turns during their time off. I am planning on definitely being with them myself at the very least the first 3 days straight. After that an depending on the circumstances, I'll need all the help I can get, so hopefully those friends are able to help. The vet I spoke to, only mentioned the amount of time I would need to be concerned about for pushing without getting the pup out. But that's all. Some of the stuff I've read has covered things like water rupturing before the baby is born, green discharge before the baby is born, feet coming out first, and of course a pup that won't come out after extended pushing. That's what I can think of off the top of my head for the delivery portion itself. Then there is the care of the puppy itself. Are there any other distress signs you can think of I should be aware of? Thanks for your response and input!

Oh that option would be lovely! It is one of the things my breeder suggested I look into, but unfortunately, as I've come to learn, this isn't an option with the ONLY vet in my area that can also handle whelping emergencies. This vet is 25 minutes from my house. All others limit what their practice does and the few clinics/hospitals that do any type of pregnancy management/services are over an hour away. That would be very nice to have, though. It's a shame more vets in my area aren't offering additional services like that. Thanks for the suggestion. 30 years of breeding is amazing. I want to learn so that I can do this right and give my dogs their best chance to live long, healthy, happy lives. You mentioned you worked, if I may ask, did you continue to work or did you eventually stop?
