| 2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | They are adorable and so tiny. This is the largest litter of Yorkie pups that I have ever seen or heard of. I cant imagine how overwhelmed mamma is going to be in two weeks with 8 fast growing pups to feed. They grow so fast and demand so much in the first two weeks of life so hopefully she wont get too flustered. How is everything going ?

| Mom and Dad are beautiful. I bet they are very proud parents. Still can't believe what a big litter you have. Hope Delilah handles motherhood well.

| This is my first post to this forum. I wanted to share our recent experience with whelping our first litter of puppies. We have two yorkies - Rocky (9 lbs.) and Nikki (8 lbs). Nikki delivered her first (and last!) litter of 8 healthy puppies on Nov. 19th right here at home. The vet and others all warned us that most likely all puppies would not survive due to the size of the litter. Well, we chose to pray and be positive. We assisted Nikki during the birth when necessary, and her mother instincts kicked in and it was quite a sight to see. She has been a very good mother. Today the puppies are 20 days old and most of them are 4 times their birth weight. All of their eyes have opened up. I am not a professional breeder, but I can say it is an extreme amount of work and devotion to keep Nikkie well nourished and to see these pups raised to become healthy and happy puppies. |

| I am glad you hear that mom and pups are doing well. I always set mine up in and exercise pen when they are about 3 1/2 weeks old. I have a board across the front on the x-pen so mom can jump in and out. The mom has to be able to get away from the pups once the pups are up and running around. As the puppies get bigger I increase the size of their x-pen. I will have the potty pads at the far end then food and water in the middle and their bedding near the at the front of the x-pen. As soon as the pups are walking, around 3 1/2 weeks, you will need to start introducing them to food. I find the easiest thing to do is to grind up some quality dry puppy food in a blender until it is fine like cornmeal. I place the dry food in a small bowl and leave it in their pen along with a shallow bowl of water. Once they have started eating the ground up dried food I also mix up a plate of food that has the dry food mixed with a little canned food. There are lots of ways to wean them but this is what works best for me. Your work will really begin now. Make sure you are keeping the puppies toenail trimmed and soon you will need to keep the hair trimmed around their anus. Make sure momma is still getting plenty of food and calcium.

| 2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | The one thing that I feel is very important at this age is that the pups get socialized. This is so very important so that the puppies are use to being handles and in contact with humans and even other animals in your home on a daily basis. This will prepare them for there new homes and make sure that they are not timid or scared. I make sure that they get plenty of cuddle time every day. Just that alone with provide them with the security they need and not be scared of people or strange surrounding. When they turn 5 weeks old I than take them out twice a day for exercise and interaction/play time with mamma and our other female while I clean the whelping box. I put the gate up and they play in our kitchen so they stay safe and to avoid any messed on my carpeted areas. To many puppies not enough eyes. Plus my whelping box is 4x 4 so it can get a bit cramped and its nice to get them out and let them stretch their legs and explore other things. We sit on the floor with them and encourage play time and use of the papers for potty time. It also time to teach them appropriate behavior (no biting or overly aggressive behavior) and what they can and can not chew on. They are teething so make sure they have plenty of toys (soft & hard) to chew on so that they can cut those teeth. My wooden table and chairs are definitely a No NO !!

| Accepted vaccination protocols suggest starting vaccinations at 8 weeks of age .....any earlier and the maternal antibodies will negate the effectiveness of the vaccination....... |
