| Hope all continues to go well. With such a large litter she may take a break. I had a bitch that delivered two of four pups and we both were exhausted and took a several hour nap. When we woke up with no signs of active labor I called my vet. I was advised to walk the bitch to encourage contractions to start and to call again in an hour is she wasn't in active labor. So we walked around the house for 45 minutes or so and sure enough contractions started and the other two pups were born fairly quickly. Be sure to give her a potty break, water, and some calorie dense nutrition - whelping pudding if you have it, if not Nutrical will work. |

Call that breeder that is "just a phone call away"! All females are different and you have to know your female, and then factor in all the lttle "extras"....3 hours is about all I would wait....that is if there is NO active non productive pushing. If she is pushing and she has not produced a baby in an hour, you may have a baby transverse, and you must get momma to a vet immediately, or you will loose the rest of the babies and possibly the momma.....unless you can manually insert your fingers and rotate the baby, IF that is the problem. You may want to consider getting to the vet, since you are a novice at this....you can be up to your eyeballs in trouble and not even recognize it yet.....and that is all precious time against you....Go ahead and take her in, let them put her on some IV fluid, maybe a little glucose....and she may start back up....if she doesnt, you will be in the best place you can be, with people that hopefully can whelp your momma safely. Rather safe than sorry. | |

| If that little momma has been allowed to go 5 hours with puppies still in there, and she has NOT been taken to a vet yet, this is NOT going to turn out well for the remaining pups trapped inside, nor poor exhausted momma. |

| Mom did great!!!!! Her and all 8 puppies were good!!! I'm so proud of her!!! After contractions stopped I took her outside to potty and walk around. She came back in and contractions started again! Thank god!! 6 boys 2 girls in the litter. So proud of my baby girl. Honestly I think what stopped her was some family came over and she got startled. I'm so glad she's done with that pregnancy! Now to be a good momma to her babies♡♡ I'm trying to post Pictures so yall can See but it says the file is to big??! |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | So, thankful that all went well. Usually a brisk trot outdoors works for my gals when labor stalls. Boy mamma sure has her paws full with all those babies. You may need to supplement their feedings in order to give her a hand. But defiantly increase her calcium/food intake by double or even triple in order for her to maintain enough milk for the incredible demand that she will be faced with those eight pups. I feed my gal. four meals a day, so with #8 I would imagine you will need to provide her with a larger amount and make sure that she has water available at all times. If you want to post pics you will need to resize them. Try PicMonkey its free, I resize mine to a 600 X 903 and it works great for YT.

| Congratulations! I am thrilled to hear it all went well. As you can see we YorkieTalk members get emotionally involved in "puppy watch" and I am so happy for you. I don't know if I've ever seen a litter of 8, and can't wait to see photos. Take care, and give that momma a little kissie for me, she really did well!

| I am glad everything went well. You will really have lots of work ahead of you. What are the weights of the pups? Make sure they are all able to latch on and nurse. Please make sure momma is eating lots of food and give her plenty of calcium. What kind of calcium supplement are you using?

| Congratulations! Please be sure that mom gets plenty of good nutrition - she is going to need tons of calcium rich foods, protein and calories to support such a large family. Can't wait to see pics. |

I think that you and your bitch got very lucky together. You did not have expert help available to you. Somehow what-ever arrangements you may have made in advance fell through, your regular vet, your back up vet, your breeder. It could have gone a whole lot differently. Anyhow enjoy your pups.
