| ![]() Ok, I'm trying the update again, so I apologize if it posts twice. We keep Laci and the babies in the bedroom with us with the door shut. Laci and baby daddy Bentley usually stay in the kitchen with a baby gate keeping them from getting in the living room, just because Bentley can't keep his urine to himself. ![]() Laci has been doing so good, she doesn't even want to leave them. I have to physically remove her from the box to take her outside to do her business. She keeps going back to the door as soon as I put her down on the grass, so I have to make her walk around a little bit before she realizes what I want her to do. As soon as she is done she runs up to me and looks at me as if she's saying "lets go!" She kept trying to get under the bedroom door yesterday when I was removing her IV. The vet had left it in overnight just in case we had to come back and get fluids. As for my elective c-section decision, maybe I jumped the gun, but I wanted to keep her as safe as possible. She had went a week over her due date, so I took her to the vet for a checkup and he gave me that option. He said he couldn't say for sure if she would have difficulty but that they felt like they were good size and that she had plenty in there. I didn't want to take a chance on me sleeping through the birth and she get into trouble and me not know. So, to ease my mind and keep her safe, I went ahead with it. Turns out, it was a good decision, one of the smaller ones was folded up at the beginning of her birth canal, so he would have been turned in a weird way and we would have probably had one anyway. The smallest one was 2.7 oz and the largest was 5.3 oz. Mom is 8 lbs and dad is 5. They are all gaining weight and doing great! We had 3 boys and 3 girls! |

| ![]() Quick question. I'm wanting to keep a closer eye on their weights now, but how can I mark them to identify which one is which? I don't really wanna tie a ribbon around their neck or anything because I don't want laci to try to get it off. Can I put a little dab of nail polish or acrylic paint on their back? Any other suggestions? She's really protective now, she will let me hold one but she comes out and tries to grab from me a few seconds later. |

| ![]() I use puppy ID tags around their necks....never had any problem with them....I dont use yarn, as I did have issues with puppy nails getting caught in the yarn....I ordered colored ID tags, but since you dont have that, I would just use that white bandage tape...take a piece about 8 inches long, and 1 inch wide....fold the tape in half, lengthwise, so the sticky sides are stuck together. Now cut that 1/2 in wide strip right down the middle, so you have (2) 1/4 inch wide strips, 8 inches long. Put it around the babys neck, overlaping the tape, and put a piece of tape under and fold it up over the strip, securing the strip like a little collar on babys neck. Use a marker to put one large dot on the "collar". Do the same thing with the other 5, putting the correct # of dots on each collar, 1-6. Or you could use a different color dot for each collar....or if you can write that small, # each baby 1-6..... You only want there to be enough space between the baby's neck and the collar for you to get one finger inder the collar. Momma wont fool with the collars....at least, I have never had one mess with them. Take the baby in another room so she cant hear it crying as you work to put the "collar" on.....When I take a puppy out, I use "slight of hand, and draw her attention to one particular puppy that I fool with using my right hand, while I remove a baby with my left hand.... | ![]() I usually just feed my mommas in the box while she is with the babies....she will take a couple bites and then check the babies and then eat some more...less stress on momma....when she has finished all she wants to eat, I remove the bowl from the bed they are in, and just set it right outside the bed, in the whelping pen, so she can see it there....she will get up and check it out when she gets the kids fed and down for their naps! |

| ![]() I am so glad to hear that momma and babies are doing well. I always feed my mammas in the whelping box too. Sometimes it takes a week or so before they feel comfortable enough to eat outside the box. Will you be taking them to the vet to have the tails docked and dewclaws removed? I usually do that on the 3 or 4 day.

| ![]() I am going to have their tails docked. I'm taking them Friday after work. I've been lucky and had the past 2 days off with them, back to reality tomorrow. ![]() |

| ![]() When my baby was born, the breeder put hair scrunchies in different colors on each of the pups necks. They were soft cloth with elastic, so did not get too tight.
