Friday will be day 4, my vet closes early today and I have no way of getting them there before then.

Welcome to YT and congrats on the new pups. Its good to hear that mamma is doing better and tending to her litter. Sometimes I think we skin mamma worry more than the furry ones.

For tagging I use needle point string that I bundle into three or four strands to make it thicker than I tie it in knots along the entire length about an inch or so apart to make to it does not unravel. Its gets dirty and plus they out grow it so fast so it works great. You have plenty to use and change out when needed. Be sure to that you dont tie it too tight and tie at least 3 knots.

I'm getting concerned that she may be low on milk. She's eating good and I give her wet puppy food so she will eat more, and she is drinking plenty of water. I noticed she had little hicky looking spots on her belly like they had tried sucking on an area beside her nipples. And they are yanking pretty hard when they feed. When I tried to squeeze some out I didn't get anything. They are still gaining weight and they are not crying. Is there anything I can feed her to produce more milk? My mom made a mixture of cooking oil, milk, and flour for her daschund and gave her that, she heard it helped with milk production. Anyone ever heard of this?

No I haven't.

If they are gaining than they are eating. They do suckle quit hard and that is totally normal. I had this same concern with my last litter of 6. I was worried that they were taking every bit of nourishment from her and it looked like there was not enough milk of fat on her bones to accommodate their needs. I got some great advise from others here, which was quite simple just up her intake and she'll do fine.

I was feeding her three times a day and than went to four times after the pups came along. If she wanted more I gave it to her. I always feed my girls in the whelping box so they don't stress about being away from her pups and refuse to eat.

Food mixture: Dry puppy food plus a large scoop of can puppy food mixed with a bit of water to coat the dry kibble. Feed four or even five small meals per day. Some others will add vitimins or other supliments to thier nursing females food but I never have. The amount will depend on her needs and the needs of the puppies. The older they get the more they will nurse and the more milk you gal will produce giving the right amount of nourishment.

This is a super "Mother's Pudding" from Mary of Mardelin Yorkshire Terriers.....this is great for post whelping and lactating mommas....
1 can evaporated milk (I substituted goats milk)
12 oz distilled water
1 envelope unflavored geletin dissolved in warm water
2 well beaten egg yolks
2 tbsp Karo syrup (I use Dr.Millers Pet Nutra Drops)
2 tbsp Vanilla yogurt, low fat
All my mommas love this stuff and you can feed them a 1/2 cup several times during the day.
Myra Savant Harris also recommends a variation of "Mother's Pudding" that uses Fenugreek to boost milk production.....
1 packet vanilla pudding (NOT the instant, the type you need to cook)
2 cups goats milk
2 cups organic yogurt
4 egg yolks
Mix the pudding powder + milk + yogurt + egg yolks.....mix well and cook slowly, stirring constantly.
When it starts to boil, remove from heat and put a teabag of Fenugreek in this mixture for 2-3 minutes. (Fenugreek also comes in capsules...you get this a GNC stores...if you use the capsules, she says use 4 capsules.) Stir it into the pudding mix....cool the pudding and feed to momma. I used this with each of my mommas, just did not add the Fenugreek except for one of my ladies. I go thru this amount of pudding in about 2 days...they LOVE this and eat it right up.....the Fenugreek brings milk production up, the egg yolks add vitamines and minerals, you get calcium to ward off eclampsia, and you have your glucose to keep energy level up....
These mixtures come to us courtesy of some fabulous, experienced breeders...use them! They will certainly help you and your momma and babies!
I supplement mommas feedings with the above pudding, 3-4 times a day...and I always keep dry kibble available for her....I free feed RC formula for lactating mommas.

Laci moved the puppies to one of my laundry baskets. The one that I use for my stinky workout clothes. Haha. So we are on our way to the vet with my workout clothes and sport bras. I hope he doesn't mind! Lol

Man, I wish I would have thought about them bleeding before I took them with the clothes! They are on their 2nd wash cycle now. Lol. They are worth it though

??? BLEEDING ????? They are bleeding from the docked tails????? That is a little concerning....watch them closely...they are just babies....they cant bleed too much without getting into trouble.....do you have any QuickStop? This is why I do my own tails....the way the majority of we breeders do our tails, they dont ever bleed at all.....

I've never seen docked tail bleed before, it might be from the dew claws. There were a few in my most resent litter that bleed quite a bit when they were done. Thankfully it stopped before we got home from the vets.

It was just from where they put them back in the basket it think. Right after they did it. I didn't notice Any fresh blood on the way home.

That pudding worked so well! The least one gained was 0.7 oz. in 24 hours. My fatty gained 1.2 oz! He's up to 9.4 oz now. My smallest is 5.8 oz. now.

They are doing so good!
