2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | What to feed Ruby to increase her milk supply/ Worried ! I have a call into our vet and am waiting to hear back from them but I figure some of you seasoned breeders would know what to do. I'm worried that Ruby isn't producing enough milk to feed the litter of 6. Her teats are not as full as I would think they would be. Only the first and second row seem to have any milk in them and very little. Of course she still on the puppy mix twice a day and dry available as needed. I've weighted the pups and they are all gaining but how much is enough? What can I feed her that would help with her milk production? My fear is that the demand will increase but the supply will not. I never had this issue with Miah but she is larger and was only feeding 4 not 6. Should I be worried ? Help . . .

| In addition to what Carmen stated...I also give whelping pudding and things like cottage cheese or yogurt mixed in with the puppy food...I fed my girl at least 3-4 times per day. She also had 6 puppies her first litter, and was extremely thin until she weaned them...those pups certainly take a toll on their mom's bodies. Debbie Tea', Katie and Paige |

| I would be sure to give her a calcium supplement. The tablets I use are dosed for a 25 pound (non-nursing) dog. I give my girls 1/2 tablet twice daily. This will not only help with milk production, but helps prevent eclampsia. It doesn't sound like you're feeding her enough. A new Mom with 6 babies needs 4 or 5 meals a day. Mine tend to not be very interested in kibble by itself at that time. I usually feed them scrambled eggs, beef liver and chicken in addition to having plenty of Cesar's on hand. My girls never turn down Cesar's with a little kibble & water mixed in. I always have some goat's milk on hand in case a puppy may need supplemental feeding. Mom likes it, too and it's very good for her. It's also very important for a new Mom to get plenty of water for milk production. I make sure my girls are drinking well. Putting some water in the food (as I do with feeding the Cesar's) helps to keep their water intake up, too. Best of luck. Hope this helps.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | She's on her third puppy food mix today and is def loving it. Going to go get the fenugreek and start her on that also. I suppose that I would be hungry if I was nursing sextuplets too. I'll give her my own food it I thought it would help her!

YT 1000 Club Member | Besides what has already been suggested I was told that lots of liquids help in increasing the milk supply also. I give my girls goat's milk and the also get lots of water.

Her having six little one to feed has just increased her appetite tremendously and I wasnt taking into account how much more demanding six mouths to feed versus four would be. She is doing much better now, eats every bit of food I put in front of her. I have increased her meal to four time a day and free feed dry kibble.
