| pregnant yorkie Hi. I got a yorkie a couple days ago. She was in heat and when we got home we tried to keep her and my dog apart but my sister left the door open and so my dog and her mated. I walked in on them stuck together. I was told by the previous owner that she already had a liter a while ago. Now my yorkie is pregnant. Shes 5 years and about 7-8 pounds. Will this pregnancy go easier because shes done it before? I promise I'm not a byb! She mated with my 5-6 pound shih tzu. |

| You can go ahead and have her spayed immediately, before she gets far into the pregnancy. Just because she has "done it before" does not mean she is risk free. Every breeding must be calculated with all the risks inherant to breeding. |

| No sweetie.....what is "wrong" is subjecting your baby to breeding when you have absolutely no experience in breeding. You can not keep her safe when she comes into heat, for whatever reason, so unless you want to become a breeder, you need to consider the danger you are putting this poor dog in. If you have intended to breed, I would suggest you immediately start researching everything you can get your hands on so you will be ready, with supplies, knowledge, and money, to save this girls life and the lives of her babies. You have NO idea what kind of treatment this lady has had for the last 9 months of her life, and you do not know if she has any genetic issues or what nourishment she has had to prepare her body for pregnancy.......what is "wrong" is to go into breeding/whelping with the fore thought that this is a "hands on, on the job learning experience". Spaying this female is the right thing to do.... |

| And that being so, we all have opinions in it. Im going to be providing the care that she needs. I will be reading up on this. I refuse to spay her, how would you feel if you were pregnant and someone decided to abort your kid? I understand where you're coming from, I truly do. You're looking out for her well being but so am I. Ill make sure she has everything she needs. |

| I think at 3 days you dont even know if she is or isnt pregnant so it would be the best time to spay. I am totally against human abortion. However human life is different in my opionion. Shih tzus have larger heads and shoulders and it could cause alot of problems resulting in an emergency c- section. But i think as long as you are financially prepared for this than you are clearly trying to do te best for your girl. I hope she gets spayed soon. I dont have anything against you for breeding. But i do hope you understand that she could die if it goes badly, and you arent completly prepared. So it may be best to have her spayed before you even know if she is pregnant for sure. I have been a vet tech for a long time, and i know that once they are further along its not something i could ever do either. The most common problem is people dont think abt the possibilities of a $1000 bill if things go wrong. I think its great you are clearly askig lots of questions |

| @yorkiemom1 frankly, I didn't ask for your rude comments. And what do you mean it makes a great excuse? I could care less about your opinion now though. All you had to do was express your opinion on it not give me a lecture about what "you think is right". I don't get people like you. What's it any of your business? I have the best interest for my pup. Its not like in trying to hurt her. |

| Yorkiemom 1 is a breeder who gives great advice here, she was giving you her best advice which is to spay now because really it is risking this little girls life to let her have these babies. Hopefully you are wrong and she isn't pregnant, but in the mean time you need to keep these two dogs seperated at all times. That way if she isn't pregnant and it really was an accident it won't happen again. God bless. And not to be RUDE but you asked for advice and she gave that advice best she could. That is how it becomes her business. God bless.

| A Yorkie impregnated by a Shih Tzu, I wouldn't expect that birth to go well at all. I hope you saved up $2000 for a c-section.

| Awesomeaimee2- Kudos to you for asking questions and doing what you feel is best for your pup. Just my 2 cents...the breeders and those on here w tons more experience then I could ever have really know their stuff. What may come off as rude is actually a very passioned plea for you to heed their advice. They have experienced birthings gone wrong where babies and mommas were lost. Im sure if we asked they would say there is nothing more heartwrenching then losing a dog considered a child or her pups. My Rosie is a retired breeder (im her retirement home not the breeder) Rosie was retired because she almost lost her life due to babies being too big and the c section not going well. From my understandings that is not unusual w yorkie birthings. Rosie is 6.5-7 lbs and it was not her first litter. I get teary eyed when ever I think this sweet and loving dog almost did not make it! I've been there just as an fyi...I rescued a pittymix who I was 95% certain was pregnant. I wavered on the spay but in the end it was the idea that if I didnt spay her I would be contributing to pet overpopulation and somewhere another puppy would be put to sleep because of these pups. Its not an easy decision..
