If that contract also has full breeding rights, as was NOT sold on a spay and neuter contract: THEN: 1) You owe the seller nothing 2) You should DNA the litter. Request the DNA from the stud she was alledgedy bred to. And if the DNA proves the puppies are from that stud. Then morally/ethically you do "owe" something to the stud owners. Unless of course the stud owners already had received payment from the breeding with the original bitch owner. Now you have a right to be worried. Have you ever whelped a litter before? Do you have a great vet? A mentor? Should she prove to be pregnant, can you confidently go ahead with trying to whelp and raise a litter on your own? Actually in this situation I hope it is a false pregnancy.

| Thanks everyone for your advice and help! I noticed yesterday that she was digging in her bed area (nesting possibly?), but I concluded that she was just trying to get comfy. She ate well and was fine all day. Now this morning she is burying her food with her 'blanket', breathing heavy (could be uncomfortable/warm) and is 'gooping' a bit. I took her temp and it is 100.4. I went back through paperwork and info. from breeder again and I figured things wrong. I was guessing on what date she may have bred, but I found something in an email that I had missed before. She bred on June 4th for sure (I don't know how many times she bred or which other days she may have been bred on). So, that would put her at (possibly) day 55 today!!!! How dangerous is it if she were to deliver in the next couple of days? She is 'gooping', won't eat and is breathing heavily. However, her temp isn't real low. Have you ever had puppies born on day 55 and live? Thanks!! |

| It is quite a challenge to keep babies born too much over a week premature, alive. Have you had her xrays yet so you know what you are expecting? Be sure you verify on xray, tyhat the babies heads will pass through the pelvic ring without difficulty. Also, just FYI....I have a female whose appetite does not falter one bit, and her temp does not drop 1/10 of a degree, even up to the moment she delivers! Be prepared to hand feed premature babies! |

| ♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Sorry, this is truly a sad situation. I dont know what I would do in your place OP. Just a question...is there a way to spay the pup even if pregnancy were suspected? I'm not suggesting you do this I'm just curious. Personally for me I would probably have gone this route if it were possible. I'm really hoping mom and pups turn out healthy. I have to say when I first got Raelle, I fell in love with the breed an considered breeding. Thankfully I found this forum. After reading many posts on here, I was cured of my breeding obsession. Both my babies are spayed as will the new little one due to come home in September. Thankfully there are many experienced members on here willing to share their time and expertise to those of us that need help....For that simple fact..thank you YT.

| 'gooping' = 'discharge'. Some asked if I had the x-ray done yet. I was planning to do that on what I thought would be day 55, but since that is actually today, I am planning to take her in tomorrow. She is pregnant as I can feel the puppies kicking now (just this morning). I am getting everything together so I'm prepared when it's time. Please pray for her and babies as she is only one year old. |

Send your hubby out for shopping or a good friend. You are on puppy watch. I think you don't know exactly the date of first mating. In these circumstances I'd tried to be prepared at any moment. Do you have your list of whelping supplies needed? Let us know if there is something we can do to help.

| Thank you so much! I think I have my list of supplies ready. I do have one question though. How do you all weigh your puppies? I have a kitchen scale with a measuring bowl, where you can measure ounces that are in the bowl, but that is not very accurate. What should I use? |

| Honestly I feel for you. I would be scared to death. I don't know how to care for a litter of puppies. I wouldn't enjoy the job of parting with them either. And I would be so worried about my pet going through childbirth (ok puppy birth lol) at such a young age (well at any age really). The whole thing would stress me out totally. I would be quite upset as I hadn't chosen this huge responsibility, but i would be unable to back out of it as I wouldn't want to return a dog after even a day in my life. If anything, I think this breeder should be paying you compensation.. but I know that's not going to happen. I do hope the whole experience is a good one for you if it turns out to be a real pregnancy. Hugs x x Last edited by lovinmayorkies; 07-29-2012 at 02:24 PM. |

| What a BAD BREEDER! Any reputable breeder would want the dog back to whelp and ensure all are in capable hands...more money what the cream cheese!!! YOU have all the expenses now! Find a vet who is willing to whelp the pups for you and remember Yorkies often need csections. For what its worth I'd tell the breeder," have a nice life goodbye!"
