| Fatigued Female in Heat Hello, My 1 1/2 yr old Mini Yorkie is in heat. This morning she escaped for an hour and then returned home. There has been a lurking chihuahua near our home, so I suspect they mated. I have had an appointment to spay for two weeks from today, which I will keep. My question is, today this afternoon she has seemed lethargic, just lying down on the hard wood floor, meandering to urinate, rather than being her peppy self. Do hormonal changes assoc w pregnancy start this early / Is this typical behavior for a dog who most likely mated just a few hours earlier? Thank you! Yorkie Novice |

| I'd be taking her to the Vet. asap. What if a larger dog mated with her. She could have some internal damage.

| Yes, if she is acting unusual, please take her to the vet, who knows what could have happened to her while she was unattended. She could have possibly been injured in any number of ways |

| Oh my Goodness, you have no idea if or who your dog mated with unless of course you witnessed it? If not, get to the vet..

| A female in heat draws all males for miles around....that little chihuahua is probably the ONLY one in a five mile radius that did NOT get a piece of the action because HE WAS TOO SMALL!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT is a "mini yorkie?" This pitiful, tortured, unfortunate little lady needs to be seen by a vet IMMEDIATELY.....she has essentially been gang raped......She has been hung from God only knows how many male dogs during the time she was loose......."lethargic??" Hopefully it is ONLY exhaustion and not a ruptured vagina with internal hemorrhaging..........PLEASE seek IMMEDIATE help for the results of this horrific adventure that may very well cost your yorkie her life.... |

To answer your question NO. Not typical behaviour. Unless you have an incredible heat wave and she is suffering from a very mild form of heat exhaustion. She really needs to be seen by a vet; the sooner the better. That chi may not have been the only male interested in her whilst she was gone an hour. It is important that you find out the best way from your vet to insure she isnot pregnant, and there are no internal or other injuries that may account for her lethagry.
