NEVER never bred a TINY This is really in response to the breeding tinies poll that is now closed. Never bred a tiny, dont go against the norm, if you care about your baby dont do it. This is my very recent experience. I am upset with myself for putting my lil girl thru this. Please Learn from this......truly if you have a heart you never want to have this experience with your pet. It will take me awhile to get over how cruel I was to my 3 1/2 lb baby. Oh My........what a night. Peanut had babies and it sure wasnt fun. She went into to labor about 8:30-9:00 pm. Around midnight I decided to call my vet since there really was no progress (no waterbag) so I met him & his assistant at the clinic. She had to have a c section and it was pretty awful really...I MEAN HORRIBLE! SHe had 3 girl puppies born........they were extremely hard to rouse because of the medication, two came out of it, the other took about 6 breaths then stopped. They tried to give her a shot under her tongue to stimulate her and it didnt work. I tried everything, rubbing her like crazy breaths to the mouth for about 15 minutes, she died.Peanut started waking up at the end of the procedure (stitching) and I know she felt every bit of the last 8 to 10 stitches. My vet kept apolizing to me and Peanut but he refused to give her anything because he said it was so important she not be asleep now. He said she had to be awake for her pups and it wasnt good for her either. I kept apologing to Peanut for what I had done. When we packed them up and brought them home(hot water bottles around them), one girl was soooooo cold to the touch, so I warmed her by the woodstove and gave her a tiny bit of supplement cause they had never latched on. Did the same for other little girl. After doing all I felt I could do they stayed with mommy and I was pretty sure I would wake up with an hours sleep to dead puppies. But this am they are latched on and much more active. Peanut is being a good mama for them. She is on antibiotics for a week, plus had a shot of PCN. These puppies weigh 4 and 5 ozs. She never could have had them and she will never have puppies again. Ill never put her through that again. After her pups are weaned and shes fully recovered Im getting her spay. Live and learn but I wish I never would have bred her after seeing her go thru that. Again it was so cruel and I was SO WRONG. |
Kelly: Thank you very much for sharing your personal experience with Peanut. Your outcome could have been much worse. I'm glad that Peanut and two of her babies are healthy now. Many thoughts and prayers to you as you continue to nurture and nurse your new babies for the next several weeks. Lisa |
I'm so sorry you and peanut had to go through this. I will keep you both in my prayers that peanut gets healthy quickly and that your two remaining pups grow strong. Thank you for taking the time to share your story it will hopefully help someone else make an educated decision. |
OMG that sounds sooooo heartwrenching and I'm so glad your mommy is ok ....thank you SO MUCH for sharing your experience - I'm so sorry you lost one...that's so sad. :( in no way do I mean this disrespectifully but I am so against tinies being bred and this just pounds it home to people that our tiny little girls are just to delicate to have babies.... I am truly glad you didn't lose your little Peanut and you are a good person for helping educate others on the dangers of breeding tinies..... I hope things go better from here and your new puppies thrive and stay healthy and get stronger....what a scare you must have had. Bless your new mommies heart - Good luck |
Kelly, This is so sad and I am sorry but thank you for posting your story. Maybe a few other people who think nature will take care of everything will read your story and have second thoughts. Thank goodness you did not lose Peanut but what a hard lesson to learn. :( |
Thank you. I felt it so important to post this so hopefully no one would try breeding a tiny. I am so against breeding tinies too, I was undecided before, but there is no doubt in my mind now that is so completely wrong. I havent a problem admitting I was wrong, I knew better, I had the information and did it anyway. Its kinda like the "IT wont happen to us syndrome" but it will, it does, and its safe to say almost definite with a tiny. We were lucky she could have died and all the puppies too. |
poor you and poor peanut. thank you for telling your story so we can all learn from this.... |
It takes a big person to admit this....I really hope people DO see this and learn how easily things can go wrong when breeding tinies.... and the pain the mommy goes thru.....GOOD luck !! |
You are so brave and honest for admitting this. I'm so sorry that you lost a little pup last night. Please don't beat yourself up over this for too long -- you learned from this and have moved on in a better direction. You're a great example for everyone who thinks it's ok and safe to breed tinies. Your story can really reach people -- thank you so much for sharing it with us. Please kiss your precious Peanut for me. |
Kelly, God Bless You and I am glad you shared your story- you could have been a coward and hid the truth but you didn't. Your courage will help someone else and another precious little one will be spared your pain. I pray your little Peanut is doing well and her babies. There is lots of love being sent your way. Take care . |
Kelly, Im so sorry that you and Peanut had to go thru all this pain. I want to thank you for posting this to teach others the dangers of breeding a tiny. Im so sorry that you lost one of the pups. I will have you all in my prayers. |
Those puppy weights are the weights of a 5-7 lbs yorkie and they were in a tiny. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm pretty ticked off reading all of this and what that poor dog went through. On the road to recovery and good luck with the little ones. So, who still wants to defend the breeding of tinies??????? |
I HAVE to ask - I mean this in a general sense of a question and am only asking you because you just went thru this - is it normal for them stitch without numbing the area ? Were you saying when these poor babies get stitched back up they have NO painkillers and are stitched and feel everything as it happens ? I'm only asking because this is worse than I thought when it comes to C-Sections ....IS this normal for all C sections with tinies ? because if it is then I feel sick - that must REALLY REALLY Hurt ! BIG hugs to your mommy...bless her heart - I know you feel terrible and hope this didn't come off as a dig to you.... because I can tell you already feel bad enough - |
That is absolutly horrible. Im so sorry you both had to go through that. Im so glad two of the babies are doing ok. Please keep us updated on their progress. And give the mommy big hugs and kisses from Kelsey and I. |
Glad to hear that your little girl is OK. Congrats on the puppies. Breeding ANY SIZE female can be risky. What happened to your little one can happen to a 5-7 pound female yorkie also. Big puppies, one large puppy or a stuck puppy can cause problems (c-section). Every birth is different. This was the first year that all my puppies in every litter survived. Up until now one out of just about every litter died.... (stuck... too small... etc)....and my girls are 5 pounds and above. I have never had to have a c-section on my girls..... but that time may come eventually.... Best of luck with you new little ones! :) |
Actually no it isn't NORMAL for a standard size yorkie to have a C-Section.... but it IS too common for a Tiny to have one - I'm not an expert ...but too many people can tell you that a normal standard size yorkie should not require a C section unless there is a major problem |
One of my very stupid neighbor just lost his tiny girl . He came knocking at my door during the night but it was too late .He waited too long before calling for help . The results were : He lost mother and babies . I was always telling him that Precious was too small to be bred but no way , he listened to the advise of one of his friend that have a tiny male . |

This just needs to be stated over and over - Do NOT breed tiny undersize Yorkies !!! I just want to cry thinking of what these poor moms go thru so some HUMAN CAN HAVE AN EXTRA SMALL DOG :thumbdown |
I would love to see this thread moved into the breeding section where ALL the Breeders TO BE can see it before it gets lost in this section.... |
I second this! |
Poor little Peanut... Quote:
I usually don't post on these threads because I'm not a breeder nor do I pretend to be, but this just breaks my heart. I can't even fathom my little 4lb Widget pregnant. I applaud you you for having the courage to post this as I'm sure you will take the heat for it. I pray that your post will cause others to 'get it' and understand the pain you and Peanut have gone through. |

I really hope for him that this one put somethings right in his nut's head . |
puppy First of all, I just wanted to say that it takes a brave person to admit when they were wrong. I can't imagine how heartwrenching it must have been to see her go through being stiched up, the poor thing just wouldn't understand. I have a hard time hearing Brandy cry just when she gets a shot. I'm glad she made it through. Give her lots of kisses and thank god she's still there for you. You are doing the right thing getting her sprayed. Some people just make their dog go through c-section after c-section. Very unnatural. I was the one who started the poll because a person on here who has all 6 of her breeding yorkies under 5 lbs, the latest was a 31/4 being breed to a 3 lb. male. I believe it is wrong under all circumstances, no matter now much of an expert a person thinks they are. These females have to carry around so much extra weight, over half of their initial weight. Could anyone imagine doubling your weight when you're pregnant? I'm glad they're all doing so much better this morning. I'm so glad you shared your story. With the way the poll ended I was a little worried about novice breeders trying to breed tinies. It really needs to be stressed, no breeding puppies under 5 lbs! |

I am so glad you and the babies (and mama) are healthy! I commend you for sharing your story, you have a very important message! Can we please not start a debate, and make this thread about awareness for new breeders and members. |

Its well worth taking a bit of heat to me to let others know how its most likely going to turn out or worse. The male I bred to is so small but it just plainly doesnt matter. It doesnt make a bit of difference. Their lil bodies just are not meant to have babies. I feel pretty embarassed and guilty but its much worse to not share how not listening to documented history can go. Its not a very intelligent decision. Anything you go thru is absolutely in no comparison to the little dogs experience. |
Thanks so much for sharing your story with us...Peanut must have gone through the most terrible experiences of her life...I'm sorry that you had to learn the hard way. Hopefully it will keep others away from breeding these tinies. Maybe people will think twice about doing this to their babies. Tinies should NOT be bred...By the way, I'm glad that you shared this with us and I hope that the mommy and the babies get better and I'm sorry that you lost the 3rd little girl... |
What a great REALITY story, for anyone that is thinking of or would consider breeding a small female.. thanks for your truth and honesty. I hope if makes a difference for someone out there, that is considering it,,or someone that will do it and never stops to think of the risks.. Glad momma and the 2 babys are doing better. Out of your trauma.. if you teach one person, that's all you can hope for. |
I am terribly sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story. I do have a question though-what size was the male that she was bred to? Does this make a difference? Both of my Yorkies are tinies-3 lbs or so with the male being smaller than the female. Can these two have puppies together or would it be wiser to spay her and stud him out? We don't want the money from the puppies-only wanted to let her have 1 litter and keep them ourselves :) |
