Question Help please!!! Bentley 1st time breeding!!

Ok so heres the thing, my friend and i decided to breed her 5lb yorkie (daisy) with bentley, she dropped her off 2 days ago because daisy is in heat, she has some discharge, does this mean that she is in heat? daisy and bentley seem to really enjoy eachothers company. so, when bentley humps her but it seems he cant seem to penitrate her, i think he is clueless and i read that sometimes its good to kind of help the dogs when trying to breed, in order to have a successful breeding.

how can i help my dog??? please someone help!!

Hi there! I can certainly understand wanting to have little Yorkie puppies!! But, before you breed your dog with your friends dog I want to encourage you to have all the pre-breeding tests run. This is very important for the health of the pups and all the future pups that are likely to be born from this mating.

It's sort of a rule of thumb around the canine world that you should only breed dogs that are a good representation of the breed. Are both Yorkies good representations? Not just in looks, which is VERY important, but also in build and health, which is even more important. You want to make sure you are not passing on any genetic problems to future generations such as luxating patella (my poor Sophia has that and will have to have surgery.)

I am not a breeder, so I can't offer you any help with them mating, but just wanted to offer you some advice before you actually mate them.

Best of luck to you and your dogs.

(maybe you've already done all the testing and they are great representations of the breed...and if so, at least someone else reading this thread might benefit from the information.)

I'm glad both pups are healthy. What exams did the vet(s) do? A simple physical exam isn't enough. Knees need to be tested for LP, eyes, hips, etc. how many generations back do you know about both dogs? Any genetic disorders from parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and great great grandparents. Were all the females in the bitch's family lines free whelpers? (able to whelp by themselves)

I think it's best to find a mentor to help with the mating (help you help the pups), whelping, and how to help raise the puppies. Good luck!

Don't breed your dogs. There are plenty of pups out there that are stuck in shelters or in rescues that could really use a home.

Please leave the breeding to experienced breeders. The Yorkie breed has been deteriorated due to overpopulation and over breeding. Toy breeds are a horse of a different color with regards to breeding, and it truly takes someone who is experienced and prepared.

By the way, a common emergency for a pregnant Yorkie is a c-section. Which many times runs about minimum of $3,000. Are you prepared to pay that? I'm not trying to be mean or sound negative and I can completely understand why you would want to breed such an awesome type of dog.

But, do the breed and experienced breeders a favor, and leave it to those who do it best.

Yorkies need help with mating, this isn't something for the do it yourselfer, leave breeding to the professionals. If you do something wrong, you can injure you boy severely. Is your friend going to drop Daisy off when she's ready to deliver? If she doesn’t know about mating, she doesn’t know about delivery either. By the way, your boy can catch a disease from Daisy, even if it's her first time. I really urge you not to be a part of this, there are so many dogs in rescue now. Are you ready to be responsible for all the offspring your dog produces? By the way, your dog’s personality will change once you mate him. Please send Miss Daisy home!

Please, please know that I am not telling you what to do, its your choice, but, you have been given excellant advice. If you are going through with this please have a breeder (mentor) that knows what they are doing to help you. Years ago, before my yorkies, I wanted to raise schnauzers. (I thought) Didn't know beans about what I was doing or the hard work and everything it involved. The breeder I bought my female from wanted a puppy from her and I took her to be bred and left her one week-end. She would not breed, Thank you God, and all the way home she cried. I don't know what all was done to her but I said then, Never again. Until you read, and study up on what to do and have help, you just don't know whats all involved. I had 2 good breeders for my yorkies and the hard work they do, I couldn't do it. Please reconsider and at least find out what you are in for.

Also is your friend aware that there is a good possibly that her female may need a c-section ? What will she she do when her girl goes into labor & a pup gets stuck ? that's a HuGe risk to both mama dog & pup. These are your PETS not your tested breeders.

Please do not breed your dog right now. If its something you REALLY want to do then wait till another cycle, GET A MENTOR, READ lots, and be personal friends with a vet too. If you do not have experience, or are not working with someone who does then please wait or just get another puppy. YOU CAN LOSE your female and harm your male in this process. JUST WAIT AND THINK FIRST PLEASE.

This (along with about a million other things) is something that you should have already researched thoroughly and completely. SMH

Here is my advice. A newbie to YT comes on asking basic questions, here is your answer, get that female out of there. You have no clue as to what you are doing. You are literally risking the health of your male, and the health of the female.

All of this "mating business" should have been researched months before, if not years, and a mentor should have been found that was willing to help with the studding, the whelping, and the proper rearing of puppies.

Also let your friend know that her female can also DIE giving birth. I've seen it happen all too many times here on YT. Normally a 5.5lb female is bred with a much smaller male. How big is your boy? I'm praying not bigger than her. And there's only one reason you would breed your pup with a friends. Free pups. Do yourself a favor and listen to us please. You don't want to put your current pups or the babies in danger. I will be honest, when I was a new Yorkie owner I was ignorant and wanted to do the same thing! A girl on here that I befriended lost her female in childbirth, and I changed my mind immediately. It was not worth it. I know you have the boy, but think of your friend if she lost her Yorkie. I hope you do the right thing and take this as good advice and not some crazy people yelling at you. If you decide to go ahead with breeding please get help and get a book or something. Don't go into this blind. Many Yorkies need help with the delivery. Good luck.
