| Messed up docking. I need some advise. The last litter I had went well with the tail docking, this litter has not been as good. My female pup is ozzing from the area of docking. I had her docked on Monday, Belle pulled the stitch out and I had to take her back. They used finer thread and then placed tape on it, today I noticed that there was a little blood coming from under the tape. I went to go get the tape off, and the vet had super glued it down. It took me an hour to get it off. When I got to see her tail she has a little opening from where the docking was done. I hate to take her back to the vet, I have put anitbiotic ointment on it. Does anyone have any suggestions.

| In the military, super glue is a common way to seal wounds/cuts. It does work...but I would recommend seeing another vet as the docking wasn't done cleanly. |

| I do have the bleed stop stuff, it is more oozing than bleeding now. I am just worried about infection. I dont know whether to cry or yell at this point. I am tired from being up with them since last week worring about them coming, and now I worry tht they are not going to make it all the time. I sure love being a breeder but boy does it wear you out.

| I feel bad for Belle she knows something is wrong and keeps running to me. She even let me have the girl without complaining about it. Which we all know would not happen any other time. She likes them to be with her and she barks at you if you pick them up and she doesn't see them.

| I hate to tell you guys but alot of vets use "super glue" animal glue for spay and neuter. The vet does the first step with dissolvable stitches and then brings in more skin over the suture and closes with animal glue. If you did not have to return to the vets to have the stitches taken out then they used animal glue. P.S. I am not addressing this issue because I do not know what vets due with this kind of situation.

| I am familiar with the glueing closed of an incision, but what I dont get is why glue down the tape. That is where I am lost. I had to slowly pull it off. I have worked for a vet for 5 yrs and we never glued down tape. I am just wondering what my chances are of her not getting an infection. If anyone knows of anything more I can do I would be greatful. I have yet to loose a pup and I really dont want to start now.

| tail You have guessed..it is the reason I hate stitches and do not use them. After a docking with stitches dunk the tails in peroxcide each day. If you ever see pus ooze out, try to gently express it and soak the tail in peroxcide. Bandages make for a worse problem..no air gets tot he tail to heal the wound. If the hole is large I would take her back for a restitching as bad as it sounds, but you want the end to be closed and heal well. Put Bitter Apple on the stitches.. PS..you must bite the bullet and contact a breeder who will teach you the clamp and twist.. Last edited by YorkieRose; 11-30-2005 at 01:05 PM. |

| I am trying to find a breeder that is close. I would like to find one that is into show as well. My altimate goal is to produce the best Yrokie I a can. I knew better than to let them do the cut and stitch, I should have trusted my instinct. I guess even with everything i do know I just let the vets opinion out rule my better judgement. I haven't worked as a vet tech in 5 yrs so I second guessed myself. I was hesitant to use peroxide since the findings that it canfo more harm than good to wounds, at least after the intial cleaning. Thanks so much YorkieRose I have always loved to read your post. I hope to one day be as confident in being a breeder as you are.

| my ex-vet also glued the tails of my pups. the problem with that was they glued 2 of the tails in the down possition. it took a long time to pry one up (also took all the hair off the bottom of the tail). the other came loose pretty easy. they are all better now but it was pretty sore for a while. I mentioned this to the new vet just today. she said that is the reason they don't use glue. so it must be a pretty common problem. If I were you I would tell that vet you want an antibiotic or something at his cost. Poor baby, I hope it all get better.
