You have guessed..it is the reason I hate stitches and do not use them. After a docking with stitches dunk the tails in peroxcide each day.
If you ever see pus ooze out, try to gently express it and soak the tail in peroxcide.
Bandages make for a worse problem..no air gets tot he tail to heal the wound. If the hole is large I would take her back for a restitching as bad as it sounds, but you want the end to be closed and heal well.
Put Bitter Apple on the stitches..

PS..you must bite the bullet and contact a breeder who will teach you the clamp and twist..
