At the risk of being chastised again by the polite police, I think it's really pathetic that we always seem to have a cheering squad on her for irresponsible breeding practices who use the line "you have to start somewhere" to defend breeding a dog and then coming online to look for a mentor. Or the line "if we don't tell them the right way to do it here, where else are they going to learn it?" Ummm, how about referring them to people who actually DO know what they are doing? I think it's incredibly selfish to use a dog as a guinea pig. If it's being "mean" to say that, well then so be it. I'd rather be mean than particpate in the abuse of an animal.


BTW, I just finished reading a great article about plastic surgery. I watched a few you-tube videos on it, too. I think I'm ready to throw out a shingle and do face lifts. Any volunteers to be my first test subject, erm...I mean patient? I'd really appreciate it if someone could walk me through my first one online, too.

I don't think anyone of us were defending being irresponsible about breeding. I think most of us on here do agree with at least some of what you say. Yes, people should do lots of research. Yes, breeding is not something that should be taken lightly. Having said that, we do love this breed to and I personally am willing to help if it means I save one baby or momma. And we also don't really know the OP. Sometimes people come on here and we have just a little bit of the story. Maybe she does have tons of research to back her up, we really have no way of knowing. I do hate it when I hear that phrase "everyone has to start somewhere" because while it is true, I think some people use it as an excuse and take things lightly because "after all everyone has to start somewhere." But the OP did come on here looking for help even if it is a little late, it's not the day before her dog is do or worse yet, in the middle of a difficult whelp and she is reaching out to us for help. I would hate the day that will come when people are afraid to come on here and ask for help because we have been so mean and puppies or momma dogs lives are lost because of it. If I can help, I'm always going to try. I love this breed, everyone one of them. And I know you do too but I guess we both go about it a different way. I think that you can get further with people by working and teaching them gently than by jumping all over them and saying they are abusing their animals....

me oh my! unless you are a vet or good friends with one, then dont breed. Some breeders here think they have a degree in breeding and are a bit stuck on themselves. you are right everyone starts somewhere. developing a excellent relationship with a vet or having a close friend that is one will help

I'm not faulting the motives of those who do offer advice, just questioning whether their actions do more harm than good in the grand scheme of things. I believe that as long as we have people who are willing to walk them through things like this online, then we will actually be hurting far more mommas and babies than would ever be saved because people will know they CAN take the short cuts and that someone will attempt to bail them out.

The beauty and the curse of the internet is that people can find information about absolutely everything. The flip side of that is people then take what they find there and think of themselves as experts and prepared without doing any of the hands-on, real life work that goes along with it. It's one thing to read about what to do if a pup is stuck. It's quite another to actually REMEMBER what to do an actually act appropriately when it happens in front of you. It's even harder to accuarately describe in a post what is happening in front of you when you've never actually been in the situation before. The accuracy of that description can be the difference between life and death. This is where a hands on, in-person mentor or the presence of a vet makes all the difference.

As for whether or not it's abusive to purposefully breed when you really haven't done all the prep work, we will have to agree to disagree. In this case, the OP has been a member here since 2009 and therefore has had the information about finding a mentor prior to breeding available to her.

Oops! Two separate thoughts I failed to set that way.

I totally got what you meant and thinking of the "polite police" was think Ann should be the only one in that category then imagine her with well ya know...sorry sleep deprived communication.

Baby skinkid Marek is 5 months on the 22! Hopefull more than 6 hrs at a time will come soon but 6 straight is nice could be worse
