Just wanted to say, we are wishing you both the best, sending good thoughts and prayers that everything will work out.

This girl deserves so much more.....thank you for giving her a HOME, a life and the love of a family.

Thanks to each and everyone of you who has responded to my thread! Although I am still stressed about the current situation, I am ever so thankful to have posted this here and to have the support of you all means the most ! Foxy and I thank you!

Poor little Roxy. Hopefully it's like Mardelin said and she's just gaing because she's finally eating enough or it's a false pregnancy because her body thinks that it's what she should be doing due to her history.

I hope everything goes well for the two of you.

Thanks! I truly appreciate that! Does anyone know what kinds of tests they do to confirm pregnancy in these little ones? Tomorrow I will have some answers, thank goodness!

Normally it's just an Ultrasound or xrays

No x-rays at this point....dangerous until day 55 and since you are unsure "if" she is with whelp or when she was bred, I wouldn't chance it....Ultra-Sound is safer at this point....However, the vet may be able to palpitate and tell.

Keep in mind not all vets are very understanding of canine reproduction and what to look for....most are general practicioners.....

Ok, so should I just ask for an ultrasound? And if they recommend xrays decline those? Or just have them palpitate and see? What do you think? This is all foreign to me, but I want to do what is best. Thanks.

OK, found a home number for this lady yesterday and called and left her a message. She called me back 10 mins ago..thank goodness! Anyways she swears there is NO way Foxy can be pregnant, she said her male dog is fixed and Foxy was always kept inside and never around any other male dogs. She said that Foxy has had 2 false pregnancies in the past, and that she is positive this is the same thing. I want to believe her, but I am still taking Foxy to the vet tomorrow to ease my mind. I have no clue about false pregnancies either, so Im off to do research. But Im not beliveing anything until my vet says it..lol..Just wanted to give you all that little update. Any advice on a false pregnancy if it is one?

ok, since she's had 2 false pregnancies before, the one thing I would really be concerned with is pyometritis.....have her spayed ASAP.

I hope that this is a false pregnancy and after Foxy's spay she will be able to enjoy being a loved and pampered little lady. I think it is wonderful that you have rescued her from her sad life and are willing to do what is best for her. I know her life has changed for the better and she will enjoy being just a dog and not a money maker.
When I saw the xray pictures that YT member novemberstorms post of her litter due this week I was startled to see how big those little babies were! It really put into perspective for me how tiny these little mothers are and how complicated these births must be.

Since you are unaware of when she was bred and it is only safe to x-ray on day 55 of the first breeding and ultra sound is in order. Not all vets can tell by palpitating is what I'm saying. Not all are versed in reproduction, so it'll be up to you to guide if the vet shows any lack of knowledge in the area. Yeah! I know, it's gonna be up to you to make sure your little girl is given the best of care.

Wow! Ok, well I guess step one is the vets office tomorrow and we will go from there. Thanks again everyone, I will update as soon as we leave the vet at lunchtime tomorrow!

Ok, called my vets office a few minutes ago, and they know Foxy's situation (where she came from, issues, etc) very well. I have called and been in so much they know who I am ..lol..But anyways here is the deal. I know some suggested against this, so here goes. Her appt. is at 3:30 this afternoon, they want to do x rays, I have no idea how far along she is IF she is pregnant. She said this would cost around 45.00 bucks plus an office exam, which isnt an issue. I told her my concerns about the xray being done too early in pregnancy and she said its their protocol (sp?)...So now I need to know what to do from here? Do I let them do the xrays? Thanks.

Did you ask if they had an ultra-sound machine.

Now, my next question is, if she is with whelp, are you planning to terminate the pregnancy? If so, that x-rays are not a problem. If she is with pups, and you are planning on terminating the pregnancy anyway, I wouldn't wait until the 30th for the spay. I'd have it done ASAP. However, here's another road block you may encounter, some vets won't do it. It's not because of being a moral issue, it's just they are not proficient at the process. So, I would be looking for a back up vet just in case.

I didnt ask about the ultrasound machine, I will call them back in a few and ask that. I have no issues with terminating the pregnancy if need be. I dont want puppies, dont know anything about raising puppies, its taken all my funds just to take care of Foxy properly.

Ok, called back and spoke to my favorite vet tech and she recommended skip the xrays, and do a spay asap like you recommeneded. So she goes Wednesday for her spay, puppies or not. Hopefully I am doing the right thing.

I was in shock how much they weighed. All between 5.5-6.5 ounces....Marlee is very long and lean, so I just kept feeding her! =)
It's been 24 hours and now she just turns her nose up at everything.

It is probably the best decision for you and her. The fact that her health was not the best when you obtained her, being one thing. But, being inexperienced with whelping, caring for a dam, raising pups is another good reason to take this route.

Good Luck, Prayers are with you and let us know when Foxy is out of surgery. We all have a connection to her now and will be praying for her.

Thanks everyone! I actually heard her bark yesterday, which is SUPER rare! LOL...I "accidently" locked my hubby outside last night..haha..and he was bamming on the door to let me know it, and as I ran to unlock the door she starts charging at the door barking and growling..lol..Either shes a great judge of character or she was protecting me..lol..j/k..Either way it was great to hear a bit of spunk coming from her, cause usually shes soooo meek and mild and always looks sooo sad, she has the saddest eyes you have ever seen. So maybe my girl is on the way to feeling good..yay! But thanks again everyone! Tomorrow is the big day!

I'm glad that you were able to get her into the vet and scheduled for a spay. I will be thinking about you both tomorrow. You are doing what is best for both her and you.

Thanks! I also asked my vet "just in case" something would go wrong,and the cost would end up being more than anticipated if they would work out payment arrangements with me, and she said they would. She documented the quote she gave me in Foxy's chart and she said if it was anymore than that she would work with me. Such a relief! Thanks again everyone!

That was such good news to hear your little one is finding her voice! We will be praying everything goes well w her spay. I am sure she will be so happy to be a much loved pet, not having to "earn her keep" as a puppy factory. God bless you for not leaving her in that situation!
