| As FLDebra suggested, your breeder would be a good place to start. However, contacting a local kennel club is another option. Prepare yourself now, these wee ones do not whelp without assistance....so, be ready....also, make sure you have deep pockets for an emergency.

| Do you have a whelping pen & box ready? What other type of equipment/meds do you have available.

| While some whelps are smoother than others none are without their own set of circumstances......What you need to familiarize yourself with is stages of labor, when you step in to assist ( and you will assist) and how. Danger signs are a must to know....time-frames, etc....

| I have to check what type it is but I bought it from persmart and they told me I would only need to use it if I has too. But the whelping box is what I was planning on getting sometime this week I already had got the heating pad because I read that the puppies would need one. Also I've talked to a lady from my church who has been breeding for years but she breeds pitbulls mostly and has also breeded s**tzus, do you think she would be a good candidate for helping with my yorkie's labor ? |

Speak to her ask a few questions...I'm sure you can get a feel of her expertise....I think someone else provided you with a link for Debbie Jensen...you can get your questions from there. I'd be gathering your other supplies and meds. Changes of bedding....clean wash clothes, hemostats. scissors, alchohol, surgical gloves and the list goes on and on....

| Well she knows a lot she's given me helpful advice but is there a website or something where I can find a mentor whose experianced with the yorkie breed as opposed to larger breeds ?.. As for the heating pad I was told not to put it directly in the box but under it also. About the milk what kind of milk is it supposed to be ? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Sounds right to me, but I'm not a breeder, I just know that many people have used cow's milk and it has caused diarrhea. I've read that goat's milk is safe. Best of luck.

I usually don't use a heating pad as I prefer the pups to gravitate towards mom and each other for body warmth. Remember when pups are first whelped you will have the entire room at about 82-85 degrees. Using a heating pad can cause dehydration. ....If need be I use a heating lamp about 1 foot to a foot and half above the whelping box.
