KAS---In Labor and Need Help Posting this for KAS Hi, my yorkie is in labor- shes pushing, but not very hard, so i think shes inbetween stage 1 an 2. Shes really tired, and shes having contractions. She really likes it when i pet her. Any advice? this is my first time breeding, and im really nervous and excited. ive been studying for weeks, and i think i know what to do, but im so nervous! __________________ :animal-paBailey and Me:animal-pa :animal36:aimeeyork:animal36 Hope someone has some advice. |
yep thats her! my yorkie is in labor- does anyone have advice? |
There you go.....glad we could get you your own thread started so you can get some help. If she is just pushing lightly then she is in the early stages of labor. Once she starts pushing hard then you know the time is coming soon. This site has a lot of info that you can read and help you... Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies. |
i gave her some cows milk and now shes shakin like crazy! is she okay? or is it just stronger contractions? |
oh wait- she stopped shakin so bad now shes back to the normal contractions. How long do the contractoins take? i forgot |

Cow's Milk should not be given, only Goats Milk. Forget everything you have read on how to administer Calcium.... forget everything about giving tums, cottage cheese, cheese, icecream.. etc. It’s useless. The body needs the calcium to be delivered with the correct ratio of Vit D and Phosphorus or it doesn’t absorb it, it’s useless. Pet Cal has this correct ratio. Another thing that has it is, believe it or not.. a scrambled whole egg! Of course everyone knows not to start calcium until the litter is whelped.. no giving it to PG bitches… I do give some calsorb during whelping If things slow down on a larger litter, but never before whelping. Make it a general practice to scramble your bitch an egg every day, and depending on weight, give ½ to a whole pet tab per day. I gave it to a 8 lb bitch ½ in the morning ½ at night…this is the “daily dose” for about a 20 lb dog who was NOT nursing a litter…so just fine for ½ the size, but nursing a litter. I would grind up the pet tab in the food processor and put the powder in the egg when I scrambled it. Also, check your dog food for Soybeans, soy protein, or anything related to soy in any way. For SOME reason that is not completely understood by me (many menopause supplements contain soy, or are soy based, so this seems to be a contradiction).. soy protein can interfere with the absorption of calcium in dogs. If your food has soy of any sort, change to a food that does not for the duration of the weaning of the litter. |
ya but do u no how long the contractions last? |

I'm not sure of your question; how long do the contractions last? There are danger signs, if your girl has been having strong contractions for the last hour and no pup....it is an indication that there is problems. Did you see a vet yesterday? You should be taking every precaution to insure your girl's safety. Are you in contact with a vet? That is who you should be asking these questions of. People on the internet, not being there and assessing your girl and unable to visually see what is going on cannot give you complete, educated advice. |

Good luck with your girl and her whelping. Please let us know what the vet says and keep us updated with your litter. Fingers are crossed for a safe and happy whelping. Teresa |
thanks guys so much! we're talkin to the vet right now- she says we might need a calcium tablet. ill keep u posted. keep us in your prayers! |
Prayers for Mama & babies. We'll all be waiting for some Happy news. |
Sending lots of prayers your way. Cow's milk is not good for them so I would stay away from that. Let us know what the vet said. Just don't want to see problems that can turn into a disaster. |
The vet said we need the calsorb paste, and Bailey might need a c section tommorrow! Pray that she'll b ok!!! |
Is she in labor? if she is in labor now a c section tomorrow will be to late...Sending prayers your way. |

thx...i dont think shes in labor yet but shes having contractions again... |
Oh my...sending prayers for your girl and her babies. |
Did the vet want to look at her today?? When is her due date??? Why would he do a c-section tomorrow?? We had to have a c-section done but Bella was just too little and she should not have been breed at all. Is she going to be spayed as well?? Hope and pray that all goes well. How is she doing now??? How are you doing?? Hang in there and try to stay calm around her. Keep the environment quiet and stress free. If you have other pets, keep them away from her if that means you have to put them or her in a different room with the door closed. Keep us updated. |
if she is having contractions...than she is in labor...if your not sure take her to your vet now so they can check her for you...better safe than sorry. |

Did you take her into the vet, did the vet listen for heartbeats, were x-rays taken. A pup maybe stuck or too big for her too pass, therefore if a c-section is not peformed now, this pup as well as the others behind it will sufficate. Not only will this happen, but an infection can be caused to your girl and taking her life too. |
