Anymore updates?...I hope and pray she took her to the vet. |
Hope she has been taken to the vet by now. Would hate to see this dog die or the pups when it could have been avoided. I would rather waste the money on a vet visit just to ease my mind then to risk losing mom or the puppies. Still praying that all is well. |
Please dont wait untill tomorrow to see a vet |
I'm just catching up on this. I see the OP's light is on. OP, if you are online, get off now and get that girl to the vet so she can be assessed. Going by your posts, something isn't right and no one here can help you. You're having trouble just knowing what labor is and you should not trust yourself to see your girl through this. You need a qualified person that is actually there with your girl...not internet advice. For your girl's sake, and the pups, GET TO THE VET NOW!! |
Thank you all for your concern, but we talked to the vet and they said to take her in tomorrow. I know, you're probably thinking, "Tomorrow? She needs to go now!" thats what i thought! We gave her a calcium tablet- (we couldnt get the paste)and its funny how she got it! We tried to force it down her throat, and she spit it out eventually. Then she was looking at us with a look that said "I'm watching you!". Then we were going to have her sniff it, and she snatched it right out of our hands and ate it! It would've been funnier if you were there. Im scared for her, and I dont think Bailey knows whats going on. She cant stand, and she wont eat (but i know thats normal) Thanks for all your help and prayers! |
I mean the not eating food thing is normal. |

Understand that you are putting your girl and her pups in real jeopardy by not taking her in NOW! Don't you get that? |

Your dog is in trouble. Do you know that giving your girl calcium tablets prior to her whelping will shut down her natural abilities to produce calcium and will lead to a eclampsia. Have fun, because you will be bottle feeding, your girl will not be able to nurse because of this condition. What don't you get about you hold your girl's life and these pups lifes in your hand. Get her to the vet.....So, sad when someone is thinking about how not to spend money instead of saving a dog's life. This is animal cruelty. Nothing funny about your discription of your girl taking the tab......She is depending on you to make the right decision. Her not being able to stand is a sign of eclampsia, she has no calcium in her body, you are "KILLING" her. Why did you come on here asking for advice if you aren't willing to take it. The responsibility layes on your head now..... |

Kas, I read through this post and I have to say I have tears running down my face. Not for you (sorry) but for your little girl and those poor unborn pups. It is very sad to see from your post that you must not really care about her at all. Everyone that has posted on here has stressed the extreme importance of getting her to your vet. But you just aren't listening. Calling your vet on the phone really does no good, that would be like calling your own Doctor and getting a diagnosis over the phone. Doctors and Vets have to physically see you or the dog in order to give a more accurate Diagnosis. Like you have already been advised She is in Labor if she is having contractions. Waiting to take her in tomorrow could possibly lead to her death from infection because if she is in Labor then Like you were told the pups will die from lack of Oxygen. |
I think she is laughing at at the excitement of everyone...no one could be that clueless if so she would be running scared to the vet..i pray this is a sick joke |

I think because animals produce young in the wild all time, people think there's nothing to get excited about. People don't realize that when man domesticates an animal, man does have to stay involved in the breeding and whelping process. A large percentage of the time, there is no problem, and many inexperienced breeders tell newbie breeders, "Don't worry, it's a breeze". You have to know the warning signs, and act quickly. I'm not sure what type of advice the OP is getting through PM's or other forums. |

Is it possible though for the momma to be in labor for over 24 hrs and no pup? |
I cannot for the life of me understand why a vet would want to wait any length of time knowing there is a dog in whelp and may be having problems. I sure hope she brought her girl to another vet. |

Experienced breeders know when they're in trouble...immediately grab their girl and run to the vet. If the vet doesn't attend to them immediately....they go on a screaming rampage until they do......But, then most experienced breeders pick their vets by their knowledge and know the dangers of waiting and it'll never get to the screaming point. |
