| ![]() At times you have to assist mom. You may want to help diaper them. Take their temperature, make sure you are weighing them twice a day (this is the best way to see if your pups are gaining and mother's milk is good). Chilling can be a cause of pups being fussy, mother's milk being bad and mother not properly diapering pups. They can also be having gas problems, check to see if their tummies are hard.....Mylocon (purchased at the pharmacy' 1 tiny drop can relieve the gas problems.)

| ![]() She's cleaning them very often, all are gaining weight, maybe gas? Take temp? Isn't a thermoeter too big, argh.... Too much milk problem. Top two teets are hard, along with bottom two. I'm trying warm compresses. |

| ![]() Was there yesterday, he suggested expressing some milk and warm cloth and to keep and eye on it. Another thing, she's nesting like a nut today, out of the box? |

| ![]() Normal temp 101.2......so, her temp slightly elevated. No, POP shot worries me, if there was retained it can cause infection. There is so many things can go wrong after a whep. Metritis, eclampsia, infection. I would not hestitate for moment to get her back to a vet. The first week is very crucial.

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() My momma had hard teats also. Warm compresses helped. Also I put the fattest one on them so they could empty it. When mom starting digging out of box I just stopped her. One of my puppies was up all night crying and after 5 hours I rubbed her belly til she fell asleep. Hope some of this helps.. Mine are 15 days today so I can tell you with a fresh memory what we all went through.. ![]()

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Yes, I agree. My Momma did not have a temp so I thought she was ok. After her not really eating and looking exhausted almost a week later I took her to Vet. Still no temp but she had a BAD Uterine infection. My vet did not give her the clean out shot either. We did get an xray to see if any pups were left. That didnt show placenta left inside or remains of the dead puppy. Her discharge is very important. Let the Vet check her out. Insist if you have to since he is not alarmed because of her normal temp. Quote:

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() I did it 3xs a day for a good 10min. I also tried mushing it around to help loosen the hardness. Squeeze out some milk and make sure it is white.

| ![]() With a slightly elevated temp and her breasts hard, I'd be very concerned about mastitis.....which very well could be affecting your pups and causing them to be fussy, milk is bad. Get your girl to a vet now.

| ![]() JMO, your momma need to be on amoxicillin. Anytime I have a momma get hard teats I put her on amoxicillin and by the next day they return to normal. It does not sound to me like your vet knows much about how to care for your momma. Are you giving the momma a calcium supplement? The shaking could be due to low calcium and the onset of eclampsia. Her higher temperature could also be a indication of low calcium. I have heard that a cabbage compress helps reduce the hardness of the teats also. |

| ![]() Agreeing with Mary. If she has mastitis the milk is bad and you need to see a vet. Are the teats reddish and very warm along with firmness? Some bloody discharge is normal after whelping but any off color is not normal. With an elevated temp, hard nipples, fussy pups and discharge I would be on my way to see the vet and insist on more testing or antibiotics for sure. Have the pups tails been docked? Could be a fussy reason too...seem the right age for it....too many variables and too much at risk...VET TIME....IMO.. |
