I don't know what prices have to do with Refusal to Sell ... but, I'm new so I answer the questions as best I can ... and ask all my questions hoping others who know more will answer! There is NO WAY you can be sued for not selling a dog to someone. Not in a million years and no matter what your reason was for not selling.

i have refused a sale to a person who lives very close to me. she called me several times last year. she was obviously a breeder but didnt want to let that be known the first time she called. i had suspected it from the beginning. dont ask me how, just a 6th sense you get after being in this a while. anwyway she called me back again, months later and had FORGOTTEN which person she was even speaking to. she went on to ramble about how she wanted a teacup girl and she had been "gettin teacup babies from her little ol' 3 lb girl for a while" ok, i was ready to jump through the phone at this lady. i will not type what i said to her on this thread...just use your imaginations..hee hee. but needless to say i have made an enemy in my area. and thats fine but is really stupid on her part because she has to know that she is putting her dogs in jeopardy for profit...

ok, here's the kicker...this same lady goes to a vet nearby, (not my vet) but a vet that my good friend who is also a breeder goes to. my friend lives about an hour away from me but she drives the hour drive to see the vet that she has always used. well low and behold she ran into this lady at her vet. small talk started up. they didnt have a clue who each other was. well the "little ol' teacup breeder" started asking questions to my friend and she figured out who she was and that we knew one another and were friends. the lady had one of her "little ol tea cups" in there that was pregnant. my friend and the lady did not have nice conversation. the vicious cycle continues...lol.

i've also refused sales to other people for different reasons. i don't always turn down someone because they have a small child. to me it depends on THE child. i have an 8 yr old and she has been around yorkies since she was born. so i know she is an exception, but not all kids are going to be gentle. but not all are NOT going to be gentle either. once i meet the child, i take it from there. i watch them inter act with some of my adults on the floor. red flags go up real quick when you put a small child on the floor with 2 or 3 yorkies and watch them. some are just as gentle as my daughter, and some have made me tell the person that i just dont think their child is ready for a small dog. another thing is that you can place a baby with someone with no children. then a year down the road they start their family and you will have no clue how their future children will be with your yorkie you placed. so even when selling to young adults, or adults in their 30-40's you would have to take that into consideration if you dont place your yorkies with people with small children. i love to place my babies in families who do have children that are well mannered and are going to grow up with my baby. i think we take a gamble anytime we place a baby with anyone children or not. thats where the 6th sense of the breeder has to come into the picture. all we can do is just try to make the best decision we possibly can. i do know that i would turn down a person without children who was single and worked a full time job before i would turn down a stay at home mom with 2 kids...

No, there is no "You must sell to everyone" in dogs. It is not like the fair housing market, you are talking about living animals, and like adopting a child, the breeder has the right to refuse you for any reason they deem necessary.

Pat I did get such a laugh from the carpet the color of dog pee sentence.I know a lady who had a cream husky type dog and carpeted her whole house in cream carpet so you wouldnt notice the dog hairs too much.lol.
