Yes, the number of people doing this these days is insane. What's even more frustrating and baffling is all of the excuses people come up with for justifying it...."hybrid vigor", mutts are healthier, 'you get the best of both breeds', hypoallergenic, etc etc. Poppycock!

This makes perfect sense and if someone was asking me where to buy a yorkie I would refer them to the most knowledgeable yorkie breeder I could find on YT and tell them to go that direction and not buy anything from anyone who advertises "designer, hybrid, teacup etc." Luckily my breeder didn't advertise any of the above but I believe now that if you want a yorkie that is going to most likely be healthy and the best size you need a breeder that is breeding pure bred and does it within the AKC guidelines and standards. All that to say I have one purebred and one who is obviously NOT because she is white and all puppies deserve great lives! But the standard should be upheld and the more people who can be educated on that before buying the better!

While breeding mutts has been a practice for years and years. After all most of us have had mutts growing up, we loved them, took care of them. But, if a breeding occurred (and they did, since years ago spay/neuter was not something we did) we gave the puppies away. However, for some reason or another and mostly for money people have jumped on the band wagon in breeding mutts and selling them for high dollar as designer dogs. Whose fault is it?.....the buyers. We, the public continue to promote them, why? Who knows, status, because celebrities do it and it becomes a status symbol.....

I agree with you here, and that why supporting the best breeders we can find is so important. It's not about the dogs as being better or worse, it's about the breeders, and their reasons for breeding. There are some breeders who are mainly in it for the money, and those breeders will never improve the breed. If every dog could find a great home, I would not have a problem with whatever people were breeding, and then I would agree with those who say, "It's nobody's business what I breed", but with so many dogs needing homes and millions of dogs being put to sleep each year only because they aren't "cute enough"; I think it becomes everyone's business.
