Then what angers me more is those those who recieve this "designer" messes knowing that they aren't standard go and breed there dogs anyways. No telling what diseases/genetic disorders that dog could have. | |

| ![]() Most definitely! I was on another forum, and when we tried to educate them they "claimed" that their breeder was ethically in her practices of making these designer messes (which the mix she got she could have gotten a significantly cheaper version at the pound). Whatever. There will always be those stubborn "designer" owners who take a bit of education as an attack against their dog personally, but of course its not! |

| ![]() I completely agree! Some of you know that my rescue Aiko is from a BYB and she is just under 3 pounds and PREGNANT! Someone thought it would be cute to have super tiny puppies! And now I am having to fly clear to Dallas, TX to undo what never should have been done in the first place! I dont mind doing whatever it takes to make sure my precious little angel is healthy, but its rediculous the amount of people out there thinking, "oh wouldnt their puppies be cute?" and then not being able to handle things afterwards. It just makes me sick! I had a lady arrested and she is now serving a 5 year prison sentence because she had 37 dogs in a 6x6x12 foot shed that she was cross breeding for the money! 13 of them had to be put down due to severe mange. Its horrible and it makes me hate people sometimes! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() Well I think part of the "answer" is of course economics, and good marketing. Somehow "designer" dogs got fashionable. If there is a market there, or if some smart person can develop a market - then voila here come the designer dogs. All you need is a movie star or two to go around with their latest designer dog .. and then .. a market is born!. Then we have the "myth" or is it the "fact" of hybrid "vigour". Supposedly these mutts are more healthy then purebreds. Let's add to this the Over population "question" in shelters etc. I'm not sure how a person supports the hybrid vigour.. for where is the data on this? Where is the data collected by unbiased third parties, that shows hip/elbow dysplasia, cerf results, thryoid panels, stats collected on cause of death? Cancer, skin conditions etc. Oh yes .. I forgot, owners of mutts are not usually examined and tested for any of these things. Of course if they were then how would we accumulate the data? Lets see mark off your dog is a shepherd crossed with s**tstu crossed with bull terrier (I think). A grr

| ![]() Kijiji is a horrible HORRIBLE place that is full of BYBers trying to pawn off dogs to unsuspecting buyers. It makes me sick and I so wish that these types of ads would be banned from being posted on YT as "this dog needs a home" ![]() ![]()

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() I've owned a lot of mutts, and I know they can be wonderful; in fact, I was against purebred breeding because I had a rather horrible experience with a backyard breeder, and believed that all breeders were only interested in making money off of dogs. As I have learned more, I realize that there are some breed clubs that are truly interested in protecting the breed, and they truly love the breed, and want to do right by it. It's not easy to find one of these breeders, but it is possible. I think we should only buy a dog, if we are interested in supporting the "future" of the Yorkshire terrier, and we should only buy from the best breeders we can find. If all you want is a pet, rescues and shelters are the way to go, but if you want to ensure that beautiful healthy examples of the Yorkshire Terrier breed are around 100 years from now, support a great breeder!

| ![]()
I couldn't agree more! But I will still do everything I can to educate these "designer" owners! When it comes down to it, it is not there fault they have been educated the wrong way and misinformed!
It's unfortunate that some people get so defensive when you are only trying to provide information that is based on facts...not personal opinions.

| ![]() i think the designer breeds have a merit but i don't like that people have stopped breeding pure breed dogs because they think they cost to much to register. i have a friend who is looking for a yorkiepoo because they are supposed to be more layed back then the pure breed and she needs a calm dog for her special needs child we spoke with a woman who said she stopped breeding poodles because she could not handle the hassle of having the litter registered and DNA tested doing all the paper work so now she breeds yorkiepoos charges the same amount but pays less needless to say we left
