You have to type the number in that the limited box has, so if it is shaded one can't see the number.

If you send for registration papers online for a litter, you can also now check the status of your puppies registration. Whether the new owners registered them or not and even the names they used.

Wish i had a answer for this,I don't believe that you can ever be sure unless they are spayed/neutered before leaving

But how do you make sure the new owner doesn't breed her? I realize the pups can't be registered, but they could still be sold for $$$.

It's good to know they shouldn't be spayed too early....what do you think is the earliest healthy age to spay? I just assumed (probably wrongly) that this was an older pup because the OP said it was obvious she wasn't going to be big enough to breed.

I recommend to spay at the vet's recommendations. Have them examine the growth platelets. Boy's testicles dropping and seated is another thing to consider. At times you can have a boy whose equipment is just stubborn and they don't get seated until they're over 8 months of age. Since yorkie girls, on the average don't come into heat until around 10 months of age, you can wait until all conditions are right; teeth, growth pattern, etc.

Well I don't send AKC papers till I have proof of spay/neuter. I also have a contract. Which to some people a contract might not always be the best but it helps along with not giving AKC papers till having proof. A crook will always find a loophole, the best way it to have them spayed /neutered prior to leaving. I think really the best way to ensure this doesn't turn out the wrong way is to make sure you really know who & where your puppies are going. I would say the best age to spay is anywhere between 6-10 months, this is also a good time to have any retained teeth pulled as well.

That's why I originally asked that question. The answer is: if the square is blackened in on the paper, then they can't see the number to type it in to make it so that they can be able to breed the puppy.

I guess I'm confused...couldn't they still breed him/her - they just wouldn't be able to register any pups that resulted?

Yeap, you got that right! SO, even if you witheld the AKC papers, they could still do the same thing. Only option left is to wait until it's old enough, have it fixed, and then add that price to the original price of the pup? Or is the breeder just out the money for having it fixed?

You are correct! A good contract will help if that situation arises, as I stated before, the best way to ensure this doesn't happen is to place puppies properly. Build a strong relationship with new families before puppy leaves.

A contract is as good as the two people signing it. That's why a good trust level should be between buyer/seller.

As far as retaining papers until proof of spay. Well I know of some people that have had records falsified......

I asked this question because of a thread that was on here a few months ago. Mary, you probably remember it - this new member came on advertising her unregistered pups for sale and when questioned, she admitted her six year old yorkie had been purchased as a pup on limited registration. Obviously that didn't stop her from breeding. I think Jackson25's answer is the most reasonable in lieu of holding on to a litter until they're old enough to be fixed before placing them.

I have heard of that as well! I will contact the vet. and see if spay/neuter has been done. Some will answer, some won't, I have also heard of having the client give permission to their vet to release spay/neuter info to breeder.
I agree, having a strong relationship with a new family is always the best way to go.

Probably the best option. Then the cost of the spay/nueter is passed onto the new owner........

I remember that one, if my memory serves me correctly, didn't she register them with another registry?
