It's good to know they shouldn't be spayed too early....what do you think is the earliest healthy age to spay? I just assumed (probably wrongly) that this was an older pup because the OP said it was obvious she wasn't going to be big enough to breed.

Well I don't send AKC papers till I have proof of spay/neuter. I also have a contract. Which to some people a contract might not always be the best but it helps along with not giving AKC papers till having proof. A crook will always find a loophole, the best way it to have them spayed /neutered prior to leaving. I think really the best way to ensure this doesn't turn out the wrong way is to make sure you really know who & where your puppies are going. I would say the best age to spay is anywhere between 6-10 months, this is also a good time to have any retained teeth pulled as well.
