There are a few others, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) are the two reputable ones in North America. There are some reputable clubs overseas that I can't remember offhand. The YTCA is not a registry, they are a breed club for the Yorkshire Terrier and they set the standard for the yorkie. The YTCA uses the American Kennel Club (AKC) as their registry.

| So which CKC was the reader asking about. I feel bad for the original C.K.C.and the Canadians that have to deal with this. And the list goes on.... |

| Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | yeah it is crazy...all of mine are AKC now after years of learning about puppy mills and what not due to Baybee my toy poodle...she was something else....she was bought for me so i can get over my fear of dogs...yes i used to be afraid of dogs due to getting hit by a car (it was very lightly) as i was backing up when like 10 huge puppies from a yard came charging at me....well she didn't get me over my fear because the day i bought her home from the petstore she scared the living crap out of me when i placed her on my carpet....she didn't even know what carpet was and she scream and ran around in circle around me...which made me freeze up and scream....since then i had lots of problems with her....and i live through the horror of a puppy mill puppy...and never again will i go back to one!!!!

| Differentiating between the Canadian Kennel Club and other KC using CKC initials actually isn't hard. You can't be a Canadian Kennel Club breeder if you reside in the USA. As a Canadian, I am a member of Canadian KennelClub, my dogs are registered CKC first as the litters must be Canadian Kennel Club registered from Canadian KennelClub registered parents, because they are born in Canada. I can use a AKC sire at stud from a breeder in the US and send the Canadian litter registration to that breeder to sign as stud owner and it is then submitted to CKC. I register each pup in Canada and then if I want to, I can register any individually CKC registered pup with AKC with the correct paperwork that AKC requires. If you reside in the US and your litters are born in the US then the litters must be registered AKC from AKC full registration parrents. Once the individual dog registration is done, that AKC registered dog can then be registered in Canada if you wish again following the requirements of paperwork submitted to the CKC in Canada. Hope this helps. |

| Found these ones listed too... ![]() ACHC = American Canine Hybrid Club DDKC = Designer Dogs Kennel Club DRA = Dog Registry of America, Inc. My original point was not to compare the CKC in Canada to the USA CKC. No comparison. My point was to say with "lay" people or the regular public at large most do not even know what papers are the right papers. I spend alot of time with my perspective puppy owners and most do not even know what registry means let alone which one is the REAL one. Frustrating to me at times. So when the OP was asking about AKC vs CKC I am pretty sure she meant the USA one however the clarification was not made and the OP has not posted since I do not believe. Sorry to my Canadian neighbors, I was not meaning to put down the REAL CKC. |

| lol. Ok. So back to the original question. After all the research which I have done. I know about the testing and the risk's that can occur. I do want to better the breed and I am not out to make money. How do I become a registered breeder with the AKC?
