| Return to Breeder Question Is there a way to microchip or otherwise permanently identify a puppy? I ask because even if I ask person to sign a spay/neuter and pet only contract that says that if they are ever unable to keep a puppy that it should be returned to me, if they choose not to honor that contract and it were to wind up at a shelter or rescue, it would be good if that organization had way to contact the breeder. Does anyone know how this could be done? |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | yes a lot of breeders microchiped their dogs, is a double security, for the owner in case the baby is lost and for you in case they wound up in a rescue..all my dogs are microchiped. and starting with this litter I am microchiping the babies before they go to their forever homes.. hugs, CArmen in nj |

| Yes many breeders microchip before selling. it amazes me that people will pay out a lot of money for a dog and then take it to a shelter. |

| More Questions When the pet has two microchips will they contact both parties? Can the new pet parent change the contact info on the original microchip? Do you have to tell the new pet parent that you as the breeder have chipped the baby and that the 1st chip has to remain registered to you? To encourage that the pet be returned to the breeder if the pet parent could no longer care for the pet as anyone offered to return the purchase price no questions asked, no matter what if you can't keep the pet. I would rather give the money back than even half to think about someone having them that didn't or couldn't care for them. Last edited by tanyahuston; 12-04-2009 at 09:08 PM. | I got a Bulldog one time from a very reputable breeder. He is my son's dog. He still has him and he is 10 years old (pretty old for a bulldog). He is chipped with the breeder's info. They told me to keep them up to date with our information and let them know if he is ever missing. They wanted to know if he ever wound up in a shelter. I just last month sent them a picture and an update on him and they were just about in tears to see what great shape he is in. I had no problem leaving them with that security about him. He is a very special fellow. |

| All of my dogs are microchipped. I dont know what i'd do if one of them darted and didnt have a microchip. The vets check every dog for microchips on every vet visit around here cuz microchips are the law. I dont know who pushed for this law, but I love it!!! My sister found two stray dogs and both were microchipped and returned to the owners. I have no idea what they do about microchips and change of ownership? good question. |
