Thank you for updating us on everything. Can I ask why he said that they are thriving but that there is no guarantee that they will all survive...was he just talking about the c-section in general??

I agree with him about not wanting to go ahead with the c-section, unless she was actually straining with no progress. After reading through all of this I was concerned that the pups might not make it since you do not know an exact due date. I pray that all goes well when she does deliver. :)

he felt them all moving, i dont know what he meant. i asked him if doing another xray would help show how things were doing and he said he doesnt like doing many xrays on growing babies. he's afraid that if they are not full term if he does a c sec that theywoudnt live. idk. he's the doc

I understand what he's saying. Not knowing when she concieved, taking them now could mean they are premature. Since they are in utero and he's examined her pups are now thriving and safe.

He's your vet. But, I relay a story to you. A friend of mine, an experienced breeder, asked her vet to do a C-section based on all her information and what was happening. Puppy was active at that point. The vet refused, the pups were whelped the next day, all still born

Just curious, is this her first litter or has she had pups before? I have seen pregnant females before with an enlarged vulva but mainly with females that have had previous litters. I think you are wise following the vets recommendation. We cannot judge by looking at pictures what is actually going on. I know of people that have done c-sections too early and lost the whole litter but on the other hand sometimes a c-section will save the pups. As long as your vet feel comfortable that she is not in distress then all we can do is wait and pray. Has the momma been eating much food? Do you have Nutri-cal on hand? I know this is frustrating for you and us as we only want what is best for your little girl. We would love to see some more pictures if you get a chance.

What is the latest possible date that she could have been bred?

I'm glad to hear that all is OK. This has to be overwhelming with 2 babies to care for.

Sassy went to the vet this morning day 65-67 she said she is not in labor, Take her home and see how it goes, she took an xray, 2 pups, big. Around 3-3.5oz. Sassy was 5lbs now 6lbs. They can not tell me if she would need a csection are not she said to close to tell. As in pups heads size to the pelvic size. She only did one side view shot. I am quite nervous about right now. Ive read so many articals on doctors overdosing and yorkies and pups not making it that I am frecking out. I love my dog soooo much, I could not bear to have her pass. I will keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer for both are dogs.

Isn't 3 or 3.5 ounces a normal puppy size? Even 4 or 4.5? My girl whelped 3 pups a couple weeks ago and they were 5 and 6 plus ounces.

Ok so assuming she did not get bred within the last two days before you got home, or her caretaker would have remembered, 63 days would be today or tomorrow.

Had around 9 pups so far out of her life and she weighs 7.7lbs. All of her pups have been around 3-3.5oz, even my little sassy was mollys first born and only one in the litter and she weigh 3.1oz. Sassys dad is 3.5lbs and she was breed to a male that is 3.5lbs. so I think that is large for a 5lb dog. Years ago my pricilla whom now has passed would have 5 pups every litter at 3.5lbs, only one would die each litter, but hers were the size of a mouse. 1-2oz pups. So Maybe depends on the size of your female.

yes 3 to 5 ounces pretty normal. But it depends on the pelvic structure of the dog.

I was thinking the same thing. IMO...any pup in the 3 to 4 and 1/2 ounce range is normal size in my book. 5 and up is getting on the bigger side. Anything under 3 I consider small.

Plus...xrays can be so decieving concerning the size. I had a girl due with a single puppy a few years back. We did the xray one day before her due date to check for size. The xray showed one HUGE puppy that seem to stretch from the pelvic to up under the ribs. As the vet put it.."it's a biggin"!!
We scheduled the c-section for the next day (her due date) and the puppy weighed 3.5 ounces and was tiny. There is no doubt I jumped the gun on this one, as her next litter she free whelped three 5 ouncer's. :)

oops..sorry for going off topic. I will be hoping to hear good news about Laynee soon!!

Ok I dont understand what is going on here. On Nov.13 the pups where 5 weeks along acording to vets xray. Wouldn't that only make her around 53 days now?

Am I doing the math right? You know sometimes I have my blonde moments.. ask around..lol
