| Is it true about hearing heartbeats in pregnant moms? I've read on several sites that you could hear heartbeats with a stethoscope and was wondering from breeders here if this is true? If so is there a special stethoscope that is used? |

| Absolutely true! Its one of my favorite things to do. I use a regular stethoscope. Sometime after 50 days I can usually get a pretty good idea of how many pups, and am pretty good at guessing the sexes by the heartbeats. |

| yep, yep !!! Good to use a stethoscope when they are whelping, you can alot of times tell whether all the puppies have arrived or not... It takes a trained ear, haven't mastered that one yet.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | SO TRUE! It's amazing to hear those little heartbeats. When I found a lump, I'd look for a heartbeat. The sonogram said 1 puppy but I had heard 2 different types of beats...much to my surprise when she had 4!!!!! oh, yeah, just use a regular stethoscope. I got mine off of eBay for under $10 with shipping/handling.

| Yes, it's true. I used the cheapest stethoscope I could find (it was under $10). I couldn't find anything until the last week or so of pregnancy. My friend says boys hearts beat faster than girls and she can tell the difference. I can't!! Still great to hear them. CJ |

| Absolutely true... I was so excited to hear Ginger's babies heartbeats. I knew then that they were alive and most likely healthy by the intensity of the beats. CC are you the one who posted you can tell the sexes by the speed of the heartbeats? I tried that myself after reading someone's post about it. Unfortunately it didn't work for me.. I had two that were clearly faster and assumed that I may have two males and two females, but I had four females. I am way to new at this to have tried to figure that one out. Good for you!! |

| Just use a regular one, this is how I knew we were for sure having two boys and one girl, by the rate of the heartbeats.. fast for boys, slow for girls. you have to make sure you are not listening to moms heartbeat though. I started listening very early, but at the time could only tell there was a pup in there, it wasn't until they were older that I could tell the difference in rates. |

| The first time I listened I could only hear digestive noises which can be pretty amusing and entertaining by themselves. CJ |

| heart beats Whispersmom has a dopler and she can hear a heart beat at 28 days..She has always been 100% right..even when the vet only saw 3 on an xray, Rini heard 4..she had 4. My vet learned to ask before hand how many Rini heard... I take her word for it! LOL Do you know each heart beat sounds different, but mostly to the trained ear? They all sound like freight trains to me. |

the lady who bred my dog didn't believe me when I said I know we are having two boys and a girl for sure because of the heartbeat... I did not know though if we were having more because this was my first experience with dogs. have fun and good luck, it is neat to hear all the different sounds.... learning what normal sounds like on mom is also good, that way if she gets sick you will be able to tell if she has a problem in her lungs ect... hyper active bowels ect. | |

| By no means am I 100% in telling sexes or even the number. I have had one incognito in there. There seems to be a slightly different sound in most though, not just the speed. Boys tend to be more tick, tick, tick and girls more of a tick, toc, tick, toc. I'm sure that's as clear as mud. LOL I usually listen at night when we lay down. Its almost as sweet as the kicks I get when they are laying against me. |
